So how did you first learn about BUSSE knives?

Right here at BFC.

Spyderco was the entry drug. From there, it went to Benchmade. There was a Buck phase, a stockman phase, a Shrade phase, a Becker phase.

And now...

Wow! I was hanging around here for a couple of years before finally decided to get serious with Busse knives so at last registered as a member of BF. During this period I went through the same first three manufacturers in similar order; Spyderco, Benchmade, and Buck. But then I went for Boker, TOPS, and eventually Busse.
I am grateful for the people here at BF. Without you guys' opinions and experience, I probably will never find my true love. And Guyon here has set an excellent example about how far HOG should go in this direction.

Someone on another forum started going on about the Swamp Rat Battle Rat when they first came out. I went to the SRKW site and it said it was a less expensive version of the Battle Mistress.. With a name like Battle Mistress, I had to see it, so I googled it up, saw the price, choked, and didn't think much about it.

A few years later, I was at the Himalayan Imports site ordering a custom kukri, and saw the "forum" link, which was to the BF forum here. I saw the Busse forum and remembered them from before. Stumbled across a pic of the Hellrazor and fell in love. Then thought "Damn, now it'd be cool if they made a Battle Mistress like that." Then saw the CGFBM. I didn't really like the small Busses and then some @&#%@ told me to never, ever look at the BAD at the company store, so of course, I had to look.

Of course now I look at a lot of the knives I have that I thought were sierra hotel, and now they look like shit (pardon mon francais). There goes the savings account. . .

That's merely a small allotment of users. If you want to see a real HOG set (current), check out some of Tony G's pics. He's into papathud territory.

Then, of course, there are Skunk's magic drawers. (Did I just type that?) :p

This is why I'm glad prop 8 passed in California. There would be guys here -in this forum- willing to marry.

Above post reminds me...

I'd like to see some "entire collection" pics from Jaxx and knifehunter, stars of Blade 2007 and Blade 2008 respectively.

I was lurking around for years, then I wanted a Dog Father or maybe a Swamp Rat first, but then Lunde's pictures push me over the line and I had to have a ASH1, then FBM, Fifteen blades later I got my DF and SR. Now I want an AK, Ruck, Kuruiri, MNFBM, ect. ect. What a great addiction.

A thread over in General made me realize I should have concentrated my efforts in a more focused way. I keep getting distracted...

Started looking for the "if you could only have 1" blade.

Saw several articles discussing the pro's of the Busse brand, both design, steel, and warranty.

Subscribed to ASG, and read the late Chris Janowsky's article.

That was what sold me. The list of what he put these through far exceeded anything I'd forsee needing to do myself.

Figured what the hey, I'll get one SHSHII, and an AFCK, and that's all I'll ever need.

Started hittin the Busse table at every show I could find them at. This was back when their Sales Manager was working the shows.

It's been a slippery slope into the Hog pen since then...

My first exposure to Busse was a little over a year ago. I was looking at Les Baer's site and I discovered his Busse/ Baer combat package. I thought to myself, what knife could be so good that Les Baer would associate himself with it. I started searching for Busse...and wound up here.

I never even new such things existed prior to finding Busse. I had always thought Benchmade was the pinnacle of knife making, and felt that my collection of 10 was quite impressive....(oh, the shame.)

Mine started on a real downer... I had a stroke on Christmas Eve morning; Severe head pain, passed out, lost feeling down my left side and my entire left field vision from either eye. The quacks want to call it a TIA, but I still have a lack of proper feeling down my left side - nearly two years later isn't exactly 'transient'.

I left hospital later that night because they said it would be new year before anyone was available to work the CAT scanner (that's the National Health we Brits are so 'proud' of - the absolute essential in a suspected stroke and no-ones in to work it for a week) and there was no way I was going to miss Christmas day, especially since I was thinking it might be my last.

Anyway, over the following few weeks, still with the symptoms (had to wait a month for a CAT scan because I left hospital without permission - they didn't tell me that at the time) I thought I had better 'put my estate in order' as they say. Seriously, I thought I might not make it and wanted to get what money I could for my wife.

I had a few old knives that I guessed would be quite valuable. I had never really been into serious collecting as such, but I did like knives! I started looking to sell them and found Blade Forums. I sold quite a few.

Gradually, my symptoms subsided enough that I thought I might not be about to snuff it immediately and I soon got into knives again, and back into the outdoors that I enjoyed so much before work took over my life. So I started to look for the best knives going, since I was short of a decent field knife, other than my huge Al Mar Pathfinder.

I quickly discounted the usual supposedly good brands for various reasons, looked at some that had a good rep and then heard the name Busse. I found the forum, um'd and ah'd between Busse and Fehrman for a while, but a Busse (CGFBM) came available at just the right time.

I've never looked back. I still got a Ferhman; great knife but it just didn't fit me as well as my Busses, so that was sold a couple of weeks ago.

Anyway, here I am. You can't get rid of me now!

There's another one whose complete collection pic has yet to surface.

For one thing ... it keeps changing. UP ... DOWN ... UP ... SIDEWAYS ....

I can barely keep track of it.

And then there's the insurance man.

Plus, I don't have enough yet. Tony, KH, Jaxx all have more.

*Sigh.* I do share pics ... sometimes. :)

I saw that destruction test on youtube the FFBM test. When it passed all the others and just kept going. I had to have one ....then two.......then three ....and more. My jackhammer is here right next to my monitor. What a beautiful piece of INFI. Looks like a people sticker to me.

i seen busse at a silverado gun show in virgina. i think it was 97 or 98, they were doing a 2x4 chop test. been with them ever since.

i must add, what has kept me coming back, other than the knives are the following:

1. the company, overall.
2. the bfc busse folks.

more than just knives and cutting stuff, ya know?

(cry, tear)

I stumbled across this forum around Jan of 06 doing research to find a new folder to buy. The offering was the FBM at that time. I had never paid so much for a knife before, but was tempted to buy one based on the fanatical attitude of the posters here, the stress test results, etc. I ordered one and waited on pins and needles for the knife to arrive and when it did I was in awe. The steel and micarta just felt so good, and like people here warned me, I became hooked. I've since bought and sold probably 10 knives and currently have three. The steel just feels so good, better than any knife steel I've handled or used. Other steels just feel inferior. Plus there are some cool people here and have been to two busse get togethers which have been great.

Thought they looked suuuuper coool and cheap, so why not???Whew hew!!!!!!!!

Haha I didn't know that the words cheap and Busse would ever be used in the same sentence! Well, I first learned of Busse when I was researching blade styles before I made my first knife. I ended up trying to replicate the ASH-1 but it didn't turn out so good in the end...
