So how did you first learn about BUSSE knives?

I don't remember what brought me here either but gimmerjr's avatar kept me coming back.

Wierd, but I have no idea how I came across Busse:confused:

I think I was on this sight and just stumbled across the Busse room???

I do remember I got here in the early .140 GW runs, and it was almost impossible to snag one from the BCS.

Wonder how everyone discovered the AWESOMENESS of BUSSE knives??? FOr me, just dumb luck! Never knew anything about BUSSE, now I got em! Bought a load of them at a storage liquidation and didn't know anything about them! Thought they looked suuuuper coool and cheap, so why not???Whew hew!!!!!!!!

It's the same way for me. Sometimes I think I remember about some guy or another telling me about them, or seeing some old black&white ad back in who knows when, but then I sober up for a moment and get uncertain again. :D

I've always been kind of a knife guy. Spyderco was certainly the entry drug and still one of my EDC's of choice. I've been on a photography forum for a long time and it's been a great experience, a great place to learn and also find out the best places to buy that I figured the same must be true for a knife forum.
Google drove me here and in the default view I saw Busse knives and wondered what the heck those were. There's something about the utilitarian design, the no B.S. warranty and attitude that sold me. The rest is, financial ruin, er, history I mean.

I found Busse Combat at the Scrapyard forum. I found scrapyard from NOSS'S utube videos. Thank You NOSS. :D

First post here and new to Busse knives, so I don't know all the lingo and models very well. So first off....Howdy!

Now back to the original post...

My Dad used to get Shomer-tec catalogs and I noticed they were the only mail order surplus/LE equipment company I ever saw advertising Busse's for sale. I've always wanted one since seeing them in that catalog. Well last July I bought my first Busse, a Game Warden. Then yesterday I bit the bullet and bought a HOGFSH. I'm hoping to send it in to the CS to have some hand cut panels installed. Not sure yet as it appears the snakeskin grips are pretty rare according to the Busse website. I bought the HOGFSH to go with another item I recently purchased.....a Freedom Arms Model 83.

Anyway....this thread was perfect for an intro and thanks for all I've learned over the past couple of days. I do have some more questions, but I'll start another post.

Merry Christmas to you all,

Mike

Steel Heart II ad in Tactical Knives spring 1995. Fell in love at that point, didn't buy one until the Leaner Meaner Street with black paper was introduced. A few after that.

I recall talking to Chris at WSI about them but I don't recall if it was him or the Hood article I read first.

1995-96 tactical knives article on the Steel Heart, the I spoke to Chris Janowski, before I even knew of the article he had written. He sent me a copy. He told me a lot about the knife and what he did with it, way more than what was in the article. Met, busse at a show in Ca or Vegas maybe, when he was still young and lean in the 97-98 time frame. bought a steel heart a the Pomona Gun show in 97, then ordered a group of knives from Busse in 98. Lynn Thompson of CS offered to buy my SHBM from me at the 99 gunshow in Ca, or maybe it was the pasadena knife show. I said no, even though he offered me twice as much, I did not want to wait another 10 months to get another one. I disappeared for a year or so and reappeared in late 2000 or 2001. By then a whole new crowd was on hand and Busse had his own forum.

An ad in Blade for a Bog Dog in 2003ish.

Led me to the Swamp (aka gateway drug) which led me here.

And here I am.

I was at the '02 Blade Show ogling some really fine knives but the price was beyond what I was considering paying for a knife at that time. This blond kid and a big guy behind the booth actually pointed me towards another knive brand and said that maybe these would be within my price range. Well, I slid over to the booth next door and picked up a couple little knives from the red headed fellow behind the table and got the web address of the company. Turned out that the 'blond kid' and the 'big guy' were RVO3VOM and the Janitor and the 'red headed fellow' was Eric. SRKW was the 'Gateway Drug' for Busse Combat and I've been drinking the Koolaid ever since.

I think that in some dark recess of my mind I always knew about Busse Combat Knives. That knowledge was reawakened by a visit to Cliff Stamp's site. I had ordered a Spyderco paramilitary and was reading everything I could find. Happened on Cliff's review of the SHBM and the Ergo BM. After reading about the abuse these knives could endure and the warranty Jerry offered it was only a matter of time before my first Busse arrived; a Muddy Mojo. First one I ordered was the FBMLE.

I took a survival trip and needed a good knife. At the time I was buying a lot of stuff from Shomer Tec. One of the catalogs I got featured the Busse Basic line and the Stealth Hawk, and I think the Ergos as well. I didn't have money for any of them, so I bought a Buck knife and used that instead.

Two years later, I still had the Buck but remembered how Busse Knives were advertised as being the toughest knives on the planet. So I went onto their website and bought a Satin Jack (the original one).

Honestly, I didn't like the style at all, and those handles weren't comfortable in the least bit. But it worked like a charm. I beat and chopped everything in sight with that little toothpick of a knife and think I sharpened it once.

I sat on the sideline as many models I didn't care about came and went and when the AK came out I was hooked. Matters only compounded when last year I started coming to Blade Forums and finding all sorts of neat stuff.

Today, I have less than ten Busse knives but every single one of them gets the regular use and occasional abuse it deserves. I am VERY careful to maintain a small collection but know that, one day, Jerry will release a new version of the SHBM and I'll be completely screwed.

Well it is kind of a kewel story My dad and i love knives but i couldnt find a knife that i didnt break within a week So my Dad went a on a search for the toughest most Badass knife. Then he told me he found a knife called Batacle then he told me the name of the steel infi I couldnt help but to laugh. It was an Batacle number 753 my dad and i took down the tree fort with it. The knife had no problem then i had to give it a real test by stabbing the knife into the concrete then i went and started to cut some nails and rocks with it after my arms were so tired that i couldnt lift my arms anymore i knew i was beaten by this knife called Batacle. I was so happy to find a knife that isnt going to break on me. So thats why i am the bladeforums to find out more busses and what make them tick. By the way thank you Jerry Busse for making great knives.
