So, how many pushups can you do?

50 with the nose touching the floor. Could have tried to do 2 or 3 more but... I was satisfied and too lazy. ;)
I usually do 3x 20 about once a week with my feet on my desk or 3x15 in a hand stand (at a wall so I dont have to worry about the balance...)

Those pretty much suck, use to do them in wrestling practise. I got pretty good on the peg board from the pull ups.

I love them. What really sucks are dumbbell swings or kettlebell swings. I have never both hated and loved an exercise as much as dbell swings.

Push ups are too easy. How about weighted pull ups or weighted dips?

Hmmm, can I use a decimal place? :D:o

My issue with all of the exercises is that you really need to do them regularly to do well at them. I don't do any of the exercises others mention, and I doubt much of anybody does the same exercises I do. Also, there are a lot of mechanics that play into the numbers, there is a big difference between someone 5' 6" and 150 doing an exercise and someone 6' and 230 doing the same thing.

I think it is awesome hearing from everyone that stays active though.

Very true. That's a big field of study in biomechanics, a field I will eventually get my phD in. Undergrad was in exercise science.

I lift 5 days a week. Have been for 11 years now.

used to be75-85 with pecs to the deck and locking out the elbows each rep but kids made me fat slow and tired
maybe 60-75 now
12 weighted pullups witih 25 extra lbs
15 weighted dips with 45 extra lbs

Well, harkamus, maybe you can work on a decent model for strength that takes into account a lifters weight, height, and total of big 3 lifts. Including frame size would be great too. Comparing bw/total ratio tends to favor shorter lifters, and using absolute poundages tends to as well.

You know, just something to work on in your spare time... :D

Not bad considering you have the rugrats to take care of.

Anything over 75 tweaks my wrist too much on weighted dips, though I've gone as high as 90. For weighted pull ups, I've gone up to 70. These are for reps of 5 - 6.

I'm 26 though with over 10 years of weight lifting under my belt.

Already been done. http://www.exrx.net/Testing/WeightLifting/StrengthStandards.html Click on the lift you're interested in.

With the exception of one or two lifts, I'm considered elite for my weight. Those I'm not ranked elite in, I'm advanced.

Strength is literally defined as the amount of weight someone can move for one repetition. As such, it doesn't take into account limb length. It's just brute force, raw strength. These standards have been in place for years.

For powerlifting, different organizations use different ways of measuring. I forgot what this calculation is called, but I like the one that takes into account the amount lifted in an exercise (like deadlift or squat) divided by the person's weight. You get a decimal as your answer. You go on and do this calculation for each lift (usually bench, squat, deadlift). Add all the decimals together for your score. Then you compare that score with your weight class and also for overall (everyone regardless of weight class).

perhaps 150 wallballs with 20 lb dynamax ball :)

or tabata squats ;)

orrrrrr turkish getups! with goodly weight!!!! !!!! !!!!

Just busted out 97. Nobody gives people funny looks for doing push ups where I work.:D

Push ups are one of those things that just takes doing them to get the # up. Pyramids have been helpful for me. And negatives work wonders too

Haven't tried to go more than 50.
I usually do sets of 40, but haven't been consistent about it.

I'm impressed. Not many people know what these are. To give other people an idea of all the muscles and joints involved in the list, check this link and take a look at the right side of the link. It will list the muscles and bones and their actions. http://www.exrx.net/WeightExercises/Kettlebell/KBTurkishGetup.html

how about bench press?

Eh, what the hell.

These two videos were from a biomechanics project I had to do while still finishing my undergraduate studies. The first video is my first ever attempt at 91 pound dumbbells, a pair of them, not two dumbbells totaling 91 pounds. The second video is attempt number two. These were taken probably 2 years ago. I'm still plateauing at 91 pounders for reps of 3 - 4, but I hope to break that this season. Disregard the grunts and the shakiness. ;) Lifts are always shaky in my experience if they are at 85%+ of the one repetition maximum. At the time I was a featherweight. I am now a lightweight.

Pull ups are a better test of strength than push ups I think. I'm 6-3 280lbs and I can do 8 pull ups from a dead hang, my goal is to get 10 by summer. That and lose 35lbs lol I used to only focus on bench, but the older I get the harder it is on my shoulders to bench real heavy.

I recently got to the magic number of 100 in a row.
Normally I stick with 40-70 per set, with 40 per set being the norm if I want to do many sets.
The most I did in one session was 500 during a Hapkido practice (just drop for a set of push-ups whenever there's a lull), but my chest was dead the next day; shoulders didn't like me either.
Haven't gone quite that crazy since.

I did 5 good ones and 5 more weak ones. Tomorrow I will hurt. Thanks alot for reminding me of my demise.

in one set? i dont think ive ever tried to do it all at once, but i do six sets of 25 every other day like some other guys here. i do it but it hurts like hell( im in good shape and athletic, but i put on a lot of weight for football that makes pushups agony)

Hey, as long as you can do even one proper one, you have something to work with.
Sounds like you have more to work with already, so it's all good.:)

I used to do 500 a day everyday.. Not straight but 5 sets of 100.. I was locked down, don't think negative of me I promise I was in there for someone else.. seriously, long story young and dumb etc, nowadays I would've narked in a heartbeat:D

I will see how many I can do now, probably less then 20 I'm sure.. Things are much harder when you get older, let alone add about 40lbs on.. :D

ETA: I just did 17, extremely out of shape nowadays.. this is discouraging.. THANKS>> lol
