So how much has joining BladeForums cost you so far?

Bladeforums has "cost" me plenty of money, but it has saved me plenty of money as well.

I agree 100%. The money I've saved not buying knives that I've read about here, and knew I wouldn't like, counts toward money saved, IMO.

Taking that a step further, I've saved more than I've spent by researching knives I wouldn't buy. I figure I've "earned a lot of cash" by not buying a ton of knives that I might have bought. This has made my acquisitions free to this point. My wife thinks my math is faulty though. :D

I was buying up all the SOG and Cold Steel that my credit card could handle. Bought a fair amount of Jaguar and United Cutlery knives (Bud K and SMKW too ;)) before that. Got a couple issues of Blade magazine, bought some Kershaws, went nuts over the AO mechanism. Decided I needed a Randall, and joined up here. I think I was looking for a Randall 1-7, and a Cold Steel Ozark Hunter (R1303 clone made by Camillus for CS, still looking for one BTW). It was all downhill from there. Got really heavy into Swamp Rat/Benchmade/Spyderco for a while, got to where I was just trading to get something new. Met Scott Gossman, Larry Nowicki, Butch Harner, Deker, LT Wright and J Neilson, and many other makers, both in person and online. Enjoyed the camaraderie above all else, and dove into Chris Reeve, Striders etc. Went down the custom folder path and decided it wasn't a financially sound road for me.

I have really eased back now, and mostly go for slipjoints and custom woods blades. Having a Case Sodbuster in your pocket on the trail is better than having a custom fixed blade, sitting on your shelf, looking at it at home. Really looking at application right now. Actually, looking at getting an 85 Toyota pickup on the road, instead of what I want to get, a Silverado, because my EDC is a micarta Sebenza ;). Priorities, priorities...

I have learned a lot though. I still like to post, though :D.

to be 100 percent honest, $70. that is all. the force is strong with this one.

Becoming a member of Bladeforums has nothing to do what I are any of you spend on knives, you spend what spend, period, don't be a victim. People do what people do on their own volition not because 'the devil, or the record, or the video game or joining bladeforums" made them do it.

Bladeforums has just helped me and others like me do better research and analysis to aid or assist in MY and/or YOUR DECISIONS regarding purchases but it does not make anyone buy anything its physically impossible its a program on a server far, far away.

I would have spent the same amount of money regardless of this site and my membership to it. I love knives and loved knives and bought knives before bladeforums existed and would, will continue regardless of bladeforums and its status.

I will refrain from answering this out of fear that if my wife ever decided to divorce me and her lawyer found this post I would be in BIG trouble.

What others said - Bladeforums opened my eyes to a lot more than my monthly trip to the now defunct "Chesapeake Knife and Tool" mall store did.

Even though I have purchased many - I have continued to sell those that lost some sparkle, and I think I have honed in on what I really like in both a fixed blade and a folder.

Let's see......knives, then collectible knives, then a shop and supplies, don't forget going to shows to "sell." All in all, still much cheaper than psychotherapy!

Well over a few Ks...

I head-dive into cutom knives whcih turned out to be a very expensive mistake and I'm just now moving slowly away from cutom to production...

I'm sittin at about $1500 if I'm totally honest... I have however become more calculating, and focus on quality and what I really want in a knife versus just buying to buy... I should probably sell some things actually

$400 before joining BF (5/2006). A lot more after joining :)

Lol, beware of BF. Just kidding, very enjoyable hobby for me.

man if post the sum,my wife will kill me...(in 11 months, about $ 2,100.00),and i got to tell you, that i do a lot of "innapropiate things" to keep this insane addiction.....(i usually tell my wife, that the knives that i bought are pices of crap, but look cool....)...

Not that I purchased all my knives thru here but I got all the info on them on this site.
In the past year... $2800

Add another $950.....

So far I haven't seen anyone spending CRAZY money. Over on Candlepowerforums someone spent $30k in 6months on ultra high end custom flashlights. Now that is a power buyer !

I've been here a while so it's hard to say, but probably a few hundred or so over the years. I don't have a big collection though. My wife and I budget and we have a set amount of money we can spend on whatever we want (his and hers money) so I have been using that lately. Most of my money the last month or two has been for s&h on trades though, which I think is a nice way to try out different things.

I'm not a big knife collector - but since joining I think I have purchased my two favorite knives - Benchmade 943 (amazing overall knife, and that axis lock is sweet!), and my soon to join me small Sebenza 21. I think that will be all I need for a while - really.:D
