I am in Monett, Missouri for a rural medicine rotation this month. It's a small town of 7500 near Springfield. My girlfriend came down to visit yesterday and brought me a present. It was something I hadn't specifically mentioned wanting, but she had a feeling I would like it.

Well, she was right! I've always thought pipe smoking was cool. My great uncle used to smoke one and I liked the smell. We drove to Springfield today and went to Humidor LTD. The owner was very friendly and surprisingly, there were a couple of guys there my age smoking pipes. They showed me how to tamp down the tobacco and I got to try a few different flavors. I also got geared up with a tamper, some matches, and some pipe cleaners. I highly recommend that store for anyone in the area.

Anyway, I remember there being a thread about pipe smoking not too long ago. so I figured I'd post about it here. I will be bringing my pipe on my next outing in the woods to do some smoking and relaxing. I'll have to post some pictures of my pipe in use. :thumbup:
 
Very handsome bowl on that one, looks like you've got yourself a winner! (And a winner of a girlfriend, at that!!!) Glad you got some folks to show you how to smoke that thing and that you really experienced a few blends. :thumbup:

You'll have a half dozen in rotation before you know it!
 
No, with pipes and cigars, you just draw the smoke into your mouth. You don't actually draw it into your lungs. Otherwise, I probably wouldn't be doing it. :)
 
Not for me , I've smoked too many welding rods to start smoking pipes as well !!!!
 
careful snow. i read that pipe smoking is a sign of repressed homosexual tendecies. just trying to help. :D
 
Go to a tobacco store & try some of the custom blends that are out there. A lot better than drug store tobacco. Borkum Riff is not bad, but the good thing about pipe smoking is all of the different tobaccos , each with its own taste & smell. different flavors for different moods.:)

Yeah we got a couple of different blends from the tobacco store as well. I think one was almond, and one was something like "Doug's blend." I am pumped to try them.

Yeah everybody there was really chill. I was kinda nervous to go in since I didn't know anything about pipe smoking, but they were all friendly and helpful. Awesome store. I'll give you a call soon to talk about a hike one of these days. :thumbup:
 
That would be awesome. Lots to do down south. Elephant Rocks is very cool, and of course there is Charlie Ridges shop. Some great hiking isnt to far away at all!!
