So I love my new BK7, but a question...

For now, leave it as it is and just use it. The coating may not look as shiny and bright as you would like but it does protect the blade. The sheath may not be the best but again it is very usable. Replacing it is totally up to you.

For a simple sheath mod that works well enough, I tied paracord from the leg tie holes, to the belt loop. Forcing the lower sheath material up and the belt loop down, which allows the knife to ride high on belt. Then I placed ranger bands (bicycle innertubing cross cut into bands) over the lower part of the sheath, which increases durability and also helps to stop tall brush from snagging onto the sheath.

Personally, I prefer to leave the coat on for rust protection, and I don't like convex edges. so I just thinned the existing edge out a little, and it works great. The best mod I did was a finger choil with a dremel attachment on my drill, and the micarta grips that the factory used to offer.

Love my BK7! I have put it thru hell with flying colors. Awesome knife. If interested in a nice Kydex sheath drop me a PM.
