So I might have, uh, modded my Military a little bit =]

Oh yea I was'nt even thing that the blades were different. The more I look at that knife the more I like it, great job

I think you are on the right track. I've been thinking how a tanto Millie would look like for long time. However, I'm afraid that full flat grind isn't the best option. Obviously you had no choice, but for a production knife, I think saber grind makes more sense.

I used my belt sander with an 80 grit belt. Took me about 2 minutes to do haha. I think the full flat grind really makes this an interesting knife. It shears very well and since the military starts out with a pretty thick bladestock, the tip became thicker the further back I went. I'm probably going to carry my military even more now! But to be honest I'm kind of getting out of production knives and getting into customs which is why I didn't feel bad about doing this mod in the first place.

So how did you get a singular bevel without regrinding the edge? Shouldn't the blade be thicker toward the spine and thinner toward the edge?

I am not the biggest fan of tantos, but that thing looks like the perfect combo between a slicer, due to the belly in the military blade, and a self-defense knife. I think the grind turned out really nicely and just dig it overall. now it would be nice if it weren't flat ground and get a little more size behind that stabbing point.

Very nice mod.

I like the tanto shape myself. My tanto Sebenza has a slight curve to the cutting edge also. Of course, the tip is thicker than yours, and convexed.

I don't follow the usual prejudice against a longer handle, shorter blade. That's one of the positive advantages of the basic Military. The handle is long enough to do its job, which is provide all the grip in the world, even with heavy gloves. The blade is still long enough to do its job. Theoretical handle / blade ratios are meaningless compared to effectiveness of the actual knife. Look at the "superknife" or razorblade utility knife.

Thanks all. I agree with you Esav, the most important thing to me when purchasing a knife is how it fits and feels in my hand when I'm using it. I do prefer a 3.5in blade at least though. There is no cutting edge exposed when the knife is closed. Overall, I'm still very happy with my decision to mod it. The deployment is even faster with the shorter blade and I don't have to worry about snapping off the tip when cutting zipties or something of the sort.

Something just clicked.... waving it is a bad idea on a tip down knife, duh. Guess I was caught up in how awesome it would be waved. I still say it's cool.

That's awesome, any chance you could make one of those available for purchase? You've peaked my interest
