So, I sold my Wicked Edge...

I recommend the grinding attachment bc it allows you more control over sharpening. With the standard it's real way to tear thru some steel, especially with the course belts.
I guess my experience with this machine is just different because I feel like I have really good control when using it, even with the angle guides. I've also never had more steel taken off than I wanted. I follow the directions and only use it on low-medium speed though.

Truth is I still may end up getting the attachment at some point for its versatility as you said. But so far this thing has been nothing but awesome for my knives the way it is now. I'll try to get some pictures up of some of my mirrors and cutting tests this weekend.

Yea I get where your coming from, I said the same thing a few months back. Then after actually using the blade grinding attachment I was kicking myself for not getting it sooner. Once you get it and sit down and sharpen a series of knives with it then you'll understand what I mean. I'm not taking away from the unit by itself, it's great...but when paired with the attachment it's Damn near prefect.

Plus I also realised that depending on the blade thickness the angles were slightly off on the original ko. A quarter inch knife when sharpened at 20° would actually end up being closer to 16-17°.

I been freehanding with a 1x42 for years and can sharpen, repair, polish any edge proper...Jerry Hossom originally educated me on the belt. I am also proficient with my W.E. And it doesn't get any better than the perfect edge it produces.

Any direction you go now is sacrifice.

That's good to know, thanks!

So which one is so much nicer than the other, in your opinion.......

WEPS. All metal construction with sturdy stone base vs plastic and suction cups to attach to a surface. Stones last much longer too. I could never get over for what I paid I was seriously holding everything down with a 5 cent suction cup that will move around on you. The EP also takes much longer from start to finish, put more wear on my back, much messier, more tricks to learn, and if you don't like unnecessary blade scratches then the EP isn't the best choice. All just IMO of course.
