So I want a 6 to 7 inch camp knife/chopper...

Was out today with my Fallkniven S1. Decided to cut me a branch to use as a hiking stick. While the S1 made relatively quick work of the branch, I said to myself, "I need a bigger knife." I'm currently selling my Fallkniven Thor, which is a 10 inch blade, because it was too big for the relatively populated hiking areas around here.

So, I want a six to seven inch blade.

Fallkniven A1 is on the list, but I already have the S1, so that's pretty boring. Already have an RC-3, so I don't really want an RC-6. I know people will start saying Busse, but that would mean scouring the for-sale forums for who knows how long. I'm open to custom makers, but I'm not sure how many can make one for less than $200.

Any other suggestions?

John of JK Knives is currently offering an awesome Hudson Bay knife that falls within your budget,

5" - $140.00
6" - $150.00
7" - $160.00

Prices include leather sheath.

Any link to that knife?

Oh, now I see it.

John makes a great product, his knives are as tough as any out there period !
He is also very flexible so say you wanted a lanyard hole etc he would maybe charge ya $5 extra ( I'm just guessing so don't quote me but he is a great guy to deal with ).;)

I had JK make me this 6" cleaver/chopper. You need to talk to John, but it should run around $160 depending on options selected. I bought 3 different knives from him at the same time, so I don't remember the exact price.

RD7 or BK7 for production but you will probably want a custom sheath given what you are used to.

For makers, talk to JK, Gossman or NWA all make 7" tank-like knives. Also check out Mistwalker's thread on his Breeden collaboration bowie, if you like the tank-buster, you will like the breeden/Mistwalker collaboration. Oh and BTW - the collaboration one scooped Jerry by a couple of weeks so its not a copy :D

Don't overlook Walter Davis; he’s making some bigger blades that are real performers.

+1 on the Becker BK7.

It is alot of knife for little money.

They have a forum in the Manufacturers section. Check them out.

+1 for the Hudson Bay from JK. I have a 7" chopper on order - should be arriving at the end of the month. He does excellent work. The thing I like about his Hudson Bay design is that it is geared for chopping and woods use, but will excel in the kitchen as well, thanks to the finger clearance. Seems live a very versatile knife.

All the best,

- Mike

I suggested a Recon Scout in this thread. It would be worth looking at what Ray Laconico and gunknifenut said about that.

Considering that the Recon Scout is a mini Trailmaster it would be also worth looking at what William.M found here.

I think $200 is bags of room to snag a Scout and get it pimped. Personally, I think a smaller version of that Trailmaster William.M posted would be very nice.
