So I want a 6 to 7 inch camp knife/chopper...

hmm, My vote would go to a couple, im just skimming through as well, so I didnt catch a price range if there was one.

First up, RC6.
I've hade mine 3-4, mabye 5 months now, and it has been a great blade. I have it with me in the field, on recce missions when packing light is nice, I take this knife and a folding saw and I have every thing covered.

Next, a bk7. Now, I own the old model, in 0170-c and it has been a great knife over all.
I've had that one for 2 years now, and have used it alot. Set-up camp, made various tools, skinned a rabbit, all the fun stuff.

So there is a couple, here is a new one from CRKT, the Elishewitz F.T.W.S.
Looks are certainly their, the sheath is amazing and this one is made from SK5 carbon steel.

Thanks for the advice, fellas. I made my decision and ended up ordering a custom knife from JK Knives (Stomper). He's estimating a mid-August delivery. I'll be sure to post some pictures when I get it.

Great choice, you won't be dissapointed !!!!

The design that Wildewinds drew up is really nice  It should make a great camp and all purpose knife.

Can't wait to see it.
With the great makers we have here and the fact that their prices are equal or better than the manufacturers, I can't imagine that I will ever buy another factory knife. Unless I need one right now, why not get one tailor made?

Bringing this back up with pics.

This is the drawing Wildewinds sent me.

Here is the finished knife. 11 1/4" oal, 6 1/4" x 3/16" blade, almost 2" tall, with black micarta handle.

And far nicer looking that many of the other suggestions !!!!;)

with your price range and the blades you mention not needing the rc6 and etc .... I'd look at Scrapyard . I have a DF and that is a mean mo-fo .

Holy crap, that thing looks like a tank. Nice design and excellent execution by Stomper. The handles look great!

I like this one quite a bit. I am sure he will love it! Sweet blade.

Needless to say, I'm pretty excited about getting this knife. I am planning a hike to test it out when it gets here. I'll be sure to post a detailed review.

+1 on the Ranger RD-9. They are tough as nails and a real bargain. I feel like I've seen one or two up for sale/trade around the forums.

Or, since you are a fan of Fallkniven you could move past the A1 and go for an A2 :)

Here's mine after I had a custom handle job, matching firesteel, and sheath made for it. I think the G10 is a big improvement over the normal rubber handle.

Since you arent going to have alot of length to aid in chopping, i would suggest somthing with either a forward balance or somthing that is quick in the hand that can allow you so swing fast. both of these would give you some serious momentum. Any leuku type knife would give you a couple advantages: one being that they are very quick, because of their thin blade, the othering being the handle flair that allows you to grip it at the end, with a few fingers, giving you the chopping length of somthing like a nine or ten inch blade. HI does a leuku interpretation, and ragnar sells several from different makers. Christof is the only maker I have seen do a leuku, but Brian Breeden encorperates similar attributes in his pathfinder model ( The similarities being that it is a light/quick knife and the handle gives the ability to grip the end).
A small Khukuri may be another option, but I am no expert there.

+1 to the kabar heavy bowie!
my friend bought the 9" bladed version (from my recommendation) and I've been really impressed with it. It cuts, chops and splits well, holds an ok edge and seems to be plenty tough. for 50$ it's an awesome deal too!
