So I want a 6 to 7 inch camp knife/chopper...

I'm surprised the Rat RC6 hasn't been mentioned yet.

Also the KaBar small heavy bowie would be a winner there. Super handy knife.

ML knives has some really nice camp choppers, and his work maintains a kind of rustic feel to them. Walter Davis also regularly has some choppers for sale over in the makers area.

Great suggestions so far, guys. I've sent out a few emails to the custom guys. I also like that Spyderco. So many choices!

plus one for the kabar short heavy bowie, i bought two of them i liked them so much.

Hi all,

Either of these 2 would work, they both have 6" blades and I do make them with bigger blades too.. they cost around $180. The top one is called the Recon and the bottom one is called the Combat Recon.

Here is my orange handled Combat Recon.

In this pic the Tan handled Recon( top knife ) has a 7" blade

A pic that shows the handle and how it is shaped.

Good luck in your search for your 6" to 7" field knife.

Check out, John (Stomper/ JK), Bryan Breeden (above), and Christof (Koyote). They all do work in the range you are looking for. I like that 7" Recon Bryan.

I'd definitely be looking at one of the makers here, for your price range. I am sure one of the makers (previously listed) will have something of your interest.

Your BIG problem will be deciding what knife to get as there are so many good makers(Factory and Custom) that meet your requirements.

If factory--try and get a chance to at least hold (if not use) the one you end up getting.

As far as Handmade---you can't go wrong with any of the makers suggested here.

Looking forward to learning what you choose--and why.

Bark River makes several in that range. The Bravo-II comes to mind and is available. Costs more than some, less than others.

Fiddleback Woodsman

:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:
Blade 5 3/4" 01 steel. OAL 10 3/4inches
Weight 7 oz.
Balance on the first finger but you can move your hand back on the blade for light chopping.
Handle East Indian Rosewood over hard maple and really comfy.
Reports from the passaround can be found here
I owe a review of this knife ans I will try to do that soon.

Walter Davis
Becker BK7
SOD
Can't go wrong with any of those

Should have included one that I'm particularly partial to.
Nick Allen's Woodsman (top in pic)
Actually, the Woodsman, the Camp Tramp or the SOD are great knives in the 7 inch range.
