So, is Firebat always so rude, or am I just the lucky one?...

Ditto OwenM & feverdoc.

From personal experience Firebat is straight up, as I think was clear from the original email exchange. "Take it or leave it," is plain, not rude, and he certainly was more tactful than that, IMO.

That said, I'll add a sincere "Welcome fnx".

BTW, here's a personal observation, and you can take it or leave it. :)

No one said this was a Sunday school class, but you'll find many more gentlemen here than punks--especially if you take people at face value, meet them halfway, and then give them the benefit of the doubt. If you're a straight-up trader, and if you really love knives, you'll be pleasantly surprised here much more often than you'll be disappointed. And if you ever have the pleasure of actually doing business with Firebat, I think you'll see exactly what I mean.

Best regards,

Will

fnxrising change your user name, start over and buy the dam knife for $375.00. And most of all never say bad thing's about Mr. CPIRTLE

Maybe I'm getting as old and crotchity as an old cook but guys who try to lowball me on a deal, chap my hide.Screw it,sometimes I do not need the #hit.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot; I have dealt w/ Firebat on at least one ocassion. I bought a knife from him. The deal went superb. He described every little 'flaw' in the knife before I bought it. When it arrived I could not even find one of the 'flaws' that were 'supposed' to be there. It was Mint.

So David, do as masterchef suggested and get on w/ it............. :) Sounds like a good plan..

Have a good one,

Thanks guys, for all of the positive notes, and constructive criticism, as well as the couple of nice emails. I do feel more welcome, and I very much appreciate it. I don't believe I'll take that invitation to leave quite yet...

I once again sincerely apologize for posting here and for posting actual emails.

JUST KIDDING....... have a good one,

Why does anyone have to get emotional about a lowball offer? If you're that thin skinned as to get hurt feelings, then buying and selling isn't your bag. Sometimes when I don't have the available cash for something I like, or really don't think it is worth "to me" what the seller is asking, I'll risk a lower offer. It has been successful in about a third of the times. I don't do it flippantly, but goes something like this, "If your price ever gets to $XXX, you have an instant sale to me, if not, I wish you the best." Nobody has taken offense at that. I never try to lower the value of the goods in the sellers eyes, just imply that it isn't worth that much to me. Most people understand. In addition, I've had people offer a lower than expected price on something I've had for sale. I either accepted it or not. I guess some of you have never bought or sold a car!

I don't think there is anything wrong with offering less than what the seller is asking, within reason. It never hurts to ask. The problem usually comes when the seller refuses and the wanna-be buyer keeps pressuring for him or her to accept. It also seems to be a problem when the seller has clearly stated "Firm". That usually means that the price asked is the price he will take and doesn't want to be bothered with lower offers. I really don't think most people are insulted by one low offer from a person unless they are rediculously low.

Just my take on the situation.

Seems a low offer is..
Better than NO offer.
No need to respond to the E unless you choose. If the low is the only offer perhaps your aesthetic appreciation is higher than market value.
Put things in perspective.
This is a diversion.

While I agree that it is okay in some cases to offer a reasonable price on a knife which is lower than the asking price, and absurdly low offer is just that, absurd.

It's up to the seller as to how he/she wants to handle the reply based on the offer.

I like the way Mer and Bruce put it, but there again those don't come across as lowballs if they're reasonable.

What we had here was a lowball plain and simple.

If someone wants to F*** around with giving a crazy low offer the seller may choose to have a little fun at their expense.

We reap what we sew.

Man, I give low ball offers all the time ... and don't even think twice about them. Sometimes sellers need the money quick, and I can make a very sweet deal by having it for them waiting in a paypal account. Sort of like the stock market right now, if you have the money you can get some sweet purchases. I always say thank you & try to let them know that even though I am giving them a lowball offer, it's cool if they tell me to go F*** myself. :D
