So it now costs $30/year to post WTS knives?

I've been away for a couple of years, I thought it was a $10/year membership that allowed users to have some limited use of the exchange.

Gotta say, the lack of difference between gold and platinum memberships and the restricted functionality of the basic membership makes a subscription a hard sell. I realize hosting takes funding, but maybe the cost-benefit is too far out of whack. I know I was willing to spend $10 to help support the site for a year and list a couple of secondhand knives in the process, but at $30 it feels like BF is asking too much for the privilege of still-restricted access to the exchange.

Admins/owners/whoever may want to consider adding some limited WTS privileges to the basic membership. Five or six postings per year in the WTS section would be enough for me to keep a basic membership going, and I can't be alone in that.

For me, it’s worth it. I have sold a bit of knives here. The difference in fees that I would have to pay selling just one knife on the bay site more than pays for it.

Cry me a river. Since I've been here it's been:

Basic membership: 10 bucks allows trading

Gold membership: 30 bucks allows selling and trading

Go list on eBay if you don't want to support bladeforums. Maybe eBay has decades of information for you to learn how to be an educated hobbyist knife guy or an expert craftsman.

Maybe that was harsh. It's tough to understand your view point because I watch people everyday on this forum behave like dealers basically selling hundreds of knives a year for a 30 dollar membership fee.

I think spark is pretty darn generous. I may sell a few knives a year, I may only sell 1 knife a year. I like supporting bladeforums anyway

Gold has been required for selling since I first found this site, which predates my 2012 registration. (the Basic ($10) allows the member to create Trade ads.) $30/yr is a pretty small fee, really; especially if you enjoy and utilize the site. (I'm not even going to comment on the part about 5-6 sales posts/year being enough to justify a $10 membership...)

Gold memberships are not at all limited in their access to the exchange, you can do everything the forum has available with a gold membership. Considering Ebay charges per sale for using their website and offers a riskier selling field, a gold membership here is a steal in comparison.

What? Try selling something on Ebay and watching up to 20% of your profits vanish. $30 a year to sell as many knives as you want, in whatever fashion you want is an absolute steal of a bargain. Plus, seriously, is $20 a huge deal? You're essentially saying "I want you to change the price for Gold to something I feel it's worth". That is frankly an entitlement attitude of towering proportions. You may want to rethink your position.

I'm not sure what you mean by "the privilege of still-restricted access to the exchange", since a Gold Membership will get you access to everything except the ability to post in the Knifemaker/Craftman and Dealers for sale forums.

Unless there is a way to restrict the number of sale posts for a year through forum systems, your last suggestion is not very feasible.

I personally feel that the membership levels are set up quite fairly. Just look at everything you can do and all the knowledge you can soak up without even spending a penny.

A day! Lol. I mean, I don't. I'm a brew at home type.
I don't drink it, but my fiancée is a coffee fiend, and I suspect we probably spend $2.50 a week brewing at home!

Seriously, OP, if you're down and out enough that $30 a year is too much I feel for you, I really do, but in the scheme of things that's realistically very, very little money.

...People spend more a week on coffee.
Good analogy. I don't spend that much on coffee in a week, but who really cares? But I do spend $2.50/month easily on coffee or drinks. The main reason I have a Gold membership is picture posting.

It's been $30 since I can remember, and I've been here for 13 years. I find it more worthwhile to sell here than anywhere else. I have let my gold membership lapse repeatedly and then usually just sign back up for it if I want to sell. I've gotten good use out of my membership in the past year.
