So mailing knives is prohibited? I guess we are all criminals!

As long as it's not on the prohibited list (all Canadian knife collectors should be aware of it) it's good to go in Canada. AS long as no one tries to circumvent any laws there should not be a problem.

I've received many knives from USA & overseas without issue as well as sent out many and everything was :thumbup::thumbup:

That sounds great until they decide to inspect the contents of your package after it's taken in the back and then they confiscate the goods. There are a great many people I will put a stern tone on, but Post Office employees aren't one of them. I'd defer with some innocuous sounding half-truth before I went off on 'em.

I'm the same way. Not quite Soup Nazi level treatment but I keep it kosher when I'm at the post office.

Do not ever tell a post office clerk what you are mailing. As long as it's legal, it's none of their business. If you have a printer, you can label a package yourself and you won't even have to
deal with human. You will even save a buck or two. USPS.com

Also, it is often a good idea to dig a little deeper on a subject.

443 Packaging and Marking

443.1 General

All sharp–pointed or sharp–edged instruments such as knives, tools, ice picks, razor blades, etc., must be securely packaged in a strong container as required in DMM 601.12.5.3 [in the original source this is listed as 602.12.5.3 which is incorrect]. Sufficient cushioning material must be used to protect the sharp points and edges from cutting through the outer packaging during normal Postal Service handling.

12.5 Knives and Sharp Instruments
12.5.3 Wrapping

Sharp-pointed or sharp-edged instruments such as knives, tools, ice picks, and razor blades, that are otherwise mailable, must be wrapped to protect their points and edges from cutting through the outer carton in which they are mailed.

I don't know about you, but that sure sounds to me like it's legal to mail knives.

Technically a switchblade is no different than a simple flipper knife in the eyes of the USPS laws. They could seize your knife and no insurance has to be paid on their end. I simply put hand tool as my description! Although i am just about done shipping overseas as it is a big pain in the ass filling out all the customs forms and its expensive as all hell! Just sent a "hand tool" to Norway, $50.81!! Thats just ridiculous!!

There's a code you have to use to send them into Canada....people have posted it here before but I can't remember what it is---something like "camping gear" or "collectible recreational item...". And even if you do that, if customs grabs it randomly you're cooked.
Huh? I use "cutlery" or "knife". Hasn't been a problem here or there.

I understand Canada is also a partner in our War on Terror so long as they do not have to participate in actual combat and provide only non-lethal support...

Again, huh? Tell that to Rob Furlong, who as a sniper with the 3rd Battalion, Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry, killed a Taliban with a 2,657 yard shot in the Shah-i-Kot Valley, or tell it to Arron Perry who killed a Taliban at 2,526 yards in Afghanistan.
