So, Mr. Gollnick....What is that knife you're trying to get off ebay?

No, ebay did not end the auction to my knowledge, I think it ended (with Gollnick winning). I know that you can no longer see it because it "is no longer in data base" but I think it ended correctly.

Does Gollnick not live here any more?

This is the notice I got and is why I posted this: Dear Dudley L. Dawkins (dudley.dawkins@co.shawnee.ks.us),

Please be aware that auction:

401590678 - Estate Knife Collection - Bali-Song Folding K

in which you were a bidding participant, has been ended early by eBay as it appears to offer an item or contains material which is prohibited for sale on eBay. Because the auction was ended early, you as a bidder are not required to complete the transaction.

Our friend Sniperboy has correctly identified the knife in question.

It was made by Jody Samson at Bali-Song Cutlery in the early 1980's. It's part of a set of 200 done for one dealer.

The end of the auction is interesting. The auction closed Saturday, August 12th at 7:24pm PST. At that time, I was standing next to my younger brother as he pledged himself in marriage to a charming young lady. On Sunday, August 13th,at 2:45am PST, as I think I was probably staggering back to my hotel room after a great reception, my computer received this email from eBay

Congratulations - this auction successfully ended.

Item Title: Estate Knife Collection - Bali-Song Folding K (Item #401590678)

Final price: $477.00
Auction ended at: Aug-12-00 07:42:01 PDT
Total number of bids: 28

But, this morning, at 9:02AM PDT, as I was just seeing to breakfast for a house full of guests staying over on their way back from the wedding (most with flights out of Portland this morning), my computer received this

in which you were a bidding participant, has been ended early by eBay as it appears to offer an item or contains material which is prohibited for sale on eBay. Because the auction was ended early, you as a bidder are not required to complete the transaction.

Fortunately, my computer had also already received a message from the seller confirming the sale and giving payment instructions.

Now, had any of you wanted this knife, you could have had it for $1 more. $477 was my top bid, and I was not around to ward off any last-minute bidders.

Let me tell you something: this auction has generated more e-mail for me lately than just about anything else. More people have asked me for advice about this knife than you can imagine.

Well, I have not yet seen it, but I suspect that it's probably worth $500-$600. So, it's a pretty good buy. No bargain, but not bad.

I'll let you know what I think when the knife arrives.

Hey Chuck, did you see the sheath for it with another custom folder in it, another of his auctions? At least I think it is the sheath for this knife?

I think that would be kinda lame of the seller to sell the Knife and sheath separate... but I guess that he probably doesnt know better...
I know if I had a rare custom I wanted to sell I'd prolly ask Gollnick or Clay if they wanted it before I tried to sell it otherwise...

The sheath in question does not go with this knife. It's a later sheath. It's doesn't go with the one he's got it with, but it doesn't go with this one.

Then again, Sniperboy is our sheath expert. If you haven't read the Sniperboy Monograph on sheaths, it's highly recommended.
