So She Says...

My wife is just the opposite, she carries a purple Kershaw Scallion, or a black DLC Leek I gave her but she hates traditional knives. I carry pretty much just slipjoints but she says they are too hard to open. She likes her assisted knives that are small to fit in womens pockets. I tried to interest her in an amber bone mini copperlock, but she likes a pocket clip. I dont get it, but I accept her strangeness lol

Last night when she got home from work she declared, "Ok, I want a knife."

I was doing a chiffonade of basil at the moment and replied, "Um, ok. You mean a kitchen knife or..."

"No," she interjected, "a pocket knife. A knife for my purse. I actually want to get one not just think it would be alright."

She went on to explain that as she was struggling to cut her tuna fish sandwich with a lunchroom plastic knife and it was squishing out all over her hands and the table she couldn't stop thinking that maybe I was right and if she had one of my sharp knives with her that she would be much happier about the outcome of this event.

"...You know, something that actually cuts?! I want to give all the options a serious look. I want you to show me different stuff and let me ask questions. I still want a 'grandpa knife' but I want to be sure I pick one I really want. Maybe we can do some looking this weekend."

"Absolutely, babe!"

She's still intrigued by the Cheetah but she's also really liking the Mini Copperlock. It's exciting because this is her, genuinely wanting the knife for her own desires. It's not me trying to convince her of how handy a pocket knife is.

When she finally decides on what she wants, this weekend or another, I'll be sure to let you all know what she gets.

Maybe show her a Laconico EZC. Small, ergonomically handy, elegant. Two production versions far less expensive than Ray’s customs are due out soon.

Can't wait to see what she picks.

My now ex-wife came to me 2 years ago with a similar request except she just wanted to pick out one of my knives because "I had so many one wont be missed and no need to waste money." So we started looking at my knives I started talking about the knives and trying to steer her towards a SAK with scissors but she didn't like all the blades. This went on for a while with me explaining the virtues of knives and her putting them down for one reason or another. Then she said I like that knife over there pointing toward a shelf I had some of my best knives displayed on those little acrylic stands. I got a lump in my throat and said which one and she picked up a small Sebenza 21 Raindrop Damascus with Box Elder inlay. With all the knives I have that would have been fine for her she went for a $700 knife.:eek::mad::(
We separated a little over a year ago and she kept my knife and it's probably laying beat up in the bottom of her pocketbook never used.

r redden - I was laughing even as I started reading. I knew where this was going - CRINGE WORTHY!

Oh man that hurts! :(

Ray

Sorry - I wasn't really laughing. :)

My wife certainly doesn’t collect knives, but she collects up knives! I gave her a nice bone handled Case Peanut and she likes it and uses it. She also took a SAK Classic from my penknife dish (that’s just fine, I have several) but recently she spied an old Schrade USA 108OT on my desk and helped herself to it - says that’s her favorite knife now - glad I have another squirreled away! OH

My wife likes jewelry, so she tends toward the colorful. If I show her a beautiful jigged bone or stag knife, she says, "It looks like all the other ones." Finally I showed her this Bullwinkle J. Moose in tomato acrylic, and she loved it!

So is it hers now Jeff? ;)

My wife noticed that I was really getting into accumulating OLD knives so she took it upon herself to start surfing The Bay looking for knives for me... and then suddenly sterling silver Tiffany knives started showing up and knives like these below instead of the +50 year old treasures I like  So if you see me post any "fancy pants" knives, you have a pretty good idea where they come from ;)

Let her try a locking knife first... my wife always has me close hers for her!

Tonight she was in the other room on her computer enjoying an adult beverage after work and said that she's looking at some knives and coming up with some she likes.

But then she said she thought she wanted something at least like a five inch blade. I said no you don't. She said yes I do. I said I love you but no you don't. She "explained" to me how she wanted something with a blade long enough to cut a sandwich and fruit and such. I acknowledged this but repeated that she didn't want a five inch blade.

Flustered, she held up her forefinger and thumb and declared she absolutely did want a blade about this big. I informed her that was about three inches not five inches.

There may have been jokes and laughter.

Fortunately, we were thinking the same thing all along. She wouldn't show me what she was looking at yet as she wants to narrow it down and then see what I think. But, she's surely taking an active interest!:)

I wanted to hit the "like" button, but I just can't "like" her skipping off with ya $700 custom :poop:

Since this seems to have become a bit of an ongoing saga...

Today I sent her a link to a Buck Squire and a note with why I thought she might like it.

Her response, "It's pretty and a good size but I want a Case."

A couple weeks ago she didn't know Case Knives were a thing but she's zeroed in on them now.

:)
