So tell me if this is right.

Hey guys,

I've been looking for a large 21 for a while (trade) and sent a member guy my offer. He said he'd think about the offer and we gave descriptions of the knives. Basically, he said he'd tell me when he makes up his mind. He fished me along for 5 days flip flopping between wanting to trade and not. I asked him plainly whether he wanted to trade or not and he said that he'll have to wait and see if he got any other offers. I saw on his thread the knife was traded and he didn't notify me. This is kind of annoying, but not a big problem.

I got an email from him the other day saying "Hey man, I see you still have this. I am getting another large 21 on thursday, would you be interested? I am either going to trade it for a small 21 and something (like your trade) or a strider."

Now, I'm not sure why he'd email me asking if I'm interested if he doesn't really know if he wants to trade. I gave him the option of me trading the small seb + $50 or the small seb + onslaught and he'll add $50, again he said he'd think about it, but he's keeping his options open.

My problem here is that he emails me if I'm interested in trading (which I am), but then he says he is keeping his options open. It doesn't really make sense to me. What do you think?

I told him, "I see you made a new thread. If you don't want to trade, all you have to do is say. I don't really want to wait a week for you to decide if you want to trade the large because you already offered to trade.

Now, if you really do want to trade with me, why don't we get the parameters arranged. You're supposed to be getting the knife tomorrow correct?

So what is it exactly that you want out of this trade? Why don't we figure that out so we're actually able to trade.

I hope you don't take any offense to this; if you do it is not intentional."

he responded with, "No offense taken, I thought it was understood that I might be interested and nor sure yet. I hope you have not been holding any of your trades. I am still unsure if I want to go for a strider or sebenza and if I decide sebenza I am unsure if I want to hold out for a micarta inlayed one.

There is nothing you have to do, if we trade its either your 2 for my large and cash or my large for your small plus cash. I just have to make up my mind. If you sell or trade before I do its my loss."

To me, it sounds like too much uncertainty on his part. I'd move on and not risk him getting it and then wanting to reverse the trade. Especially since the rule here is that the deal isn't done unless BOTH parties are happy. I'd just wait for what you want to come along from someone else. Just my opinion.

I have a guy doing basically the same thing to me. He contacted me with a trade offer, and when I said I would take that trade.... he said he wants to wait and see if he can sell the knife instead? So... why bother contacting me in the first place?

As KnifeAddictAK says, uncertainty like that is a warning of impending disaster. Do business with reliable people and avoid aggravation.

I think the same guy has contacted me about a trade for a Large 21 but I started to make the mistake of playing right into it.

i agree with what everybody above said. (i would also do what ren suggested :D). i had the same problem several times here on the fourm. anymore i give them 1 chance and after that i ignore them.

Move on to another forumite; that one sound like a flake to me. Plenty of Sebbies out there; no need to play games.

I've encountered indecisive sellers/buyers. I don't deal with them.

I buy, sell, trade mostly on impulse. I see something I want or "got to have", I make the offer. If the other party says they'll think about it, I write it off as not going to happen. A lot of times, a few days after I make the offer I no longer want the item or another comes up.

I figure if the other party won't give me an immediate answer, they're just stringing me along.

Exactly my point, wtf? Why contact someone if you haven't made up your mind?

If anyone is going to be a PITA before a trade, what kind of person do you think he'll be after a trade?

Ignore this kind of @ hole.

I can't stand that wishy washy garbage. It don't take long to decide if you want to trade or not. That fella is not worth dealing with if he can't make a decision and do the deal.

I completely agree with everyone's sentiments. I'll give him the rest of the day to make a decision if not, well... "he can pound sand" ;)
