So... The PM2 I bought may be a clone...

yeah, I didn't see the first pics, you got another knife,

Yup. He pulled the old swticharoo. But that's on him. He will lose eBay rights and I'll get my money back. I just hate that there are people out there like that.

The Chinese counterfeit anything and everything.
I'm a Numismatist as a side job. You should see all the fake rare coins and certified coins and holders out there. Some are so good they fool the experts. I have 30+ years experience and some are very good.

BTW, I report unscrupulous sellers on eBay all the time and eBay does nothing.

Really? I have had pretty good success with reporting counterfeit items and having sellers removed (after so many infractions). I will also be contacting Spyderco if they let me keep the clone so I can send it to them.

The pic with the knife leaning against the box (and possibly the other pic too) appears to be a stolen pic from Sooner State Knives. All of their pics look the same, and would never buy from someone reusing other's pics.

If that's like with my fake gold coins you'll have to send back his crap and pay for the shipping. And since he knowingly sells fakes the return address might not be his or even exist at all...

Luckily I signed up for PayPals on us return shipping so they will cover that to. Once I send it and give PayPal the tracking it's no longer on me.

Well. How would I know they were reused? Looked like a picture of the knife to me.

I got fooled by the EBAY on a Taylormade R7 Driver. The pictures were a spot on match to a certified Taylormade. He had very positive feedback so either he was fooling a lot of people or he was picking and choosing who to dupe. When the club came, the rubber grip was shrink wrapped in plastic. No other club I bought ever had the grip shrink wrapped like that one. When I removed the shrink wrap it smelled like hot tar. I complained to EBAY, received my refund but the seller kept right on selling. It is very difficult (not worth the cost) for them to prove a seller is intentionally selling a counterfeit. If you know the risks and the remedies, there's no reason to be afraid to find a deal on Ebay.

My thoughts exactly. I know eBay will fix anything with a bad seller (as in I won't lose money).

As much as it sucks, there are as many buyer scams as there are seller scams. At least with paypal and ebay being separate now, there will be room for others to compete. The main thing is to keep up on the information out there so that the fakes get tagged out and people know about them. Hopefully with the level of fakes going on, someone will step forward to provide some sort of service for dealing with the fakes, either by sending the product to the manufacturer for verification, or some other method. Main thing is to use a service that will provide the protection, better to be safe than sorry, as we've seen even reputable dealers sometimes get burned by fakes.

Yes you are correct. Great company. Bought a few knives from him and zero issues. Too bad you didn't buy from him you would've gotten a real spyderco. Luckily eBay or PayPal will refund you.

30-40 bucks is still 30-40 bucks. I can't assume everyone in the world is trying to screw me but I can make sure that I'm protected. It's not like the pictures weren't of a real Pm2. The seller had sold several and all were positive feedback. Now there is a negative from 2 days after I bought it and that's a chance I took. And honestly I'm sure people on here have gotten something that wasn't right...

If I read the ad correctly, it was clearly listed as "used". Would this really have been a $30-$40 Saving's? Asking because I really am curious. I've seen some killer prices out there, even from dealers. I know the price still would have been great for an actual legit new PM2. But what are they selling for second hand? If they can be had new for just over a buck, wondering if $70 wouldn't really just be full price for used. I've only purchased new Spyderco's, but now I'm off to the exchange just to see what's out there.

Yes it was clearly listed as used in excellent condition with little to no signs of wear. I would consider a good savings of $30-40 especially in like new condition. Even here the lowest I have seen a used (and it was very used) for $70-80 and like new or even good condition is $90-110. Regardless the person lied and I have dealt with it and received my refund. I won't lose any sleep.

Answers my question, thanks. I've only purchased new to date. My quick scan of the exchange brought a ton of sprints or customs, but the plain janes seem tough to come by. Maybe because they are just such a great knife. I know I'd have no compelling reason to ever sell mine. I may continually buy the next new pretty knife, but the staples will always simply stay in the arsenal.

Just because Ebay and paypal has your back doesn't mean that you are not enabling these sellers. Ebay does little about sellers of fakes. I have reported quite a few and nothing was done. Even if they do something the seller just creates a new account. They buy these for so cheap and mark them up so much that losing a knife here or there is no big deal. Buying from reputable dealers only is the only way to thwart counterfeiting. As long as people continue to buy from Ebay the counterfeiters will be out there doing their thing. Reporting it to Spyderco, Ebay and Paypal is great but is nowhere near as good as not buying them in the first place.

I am glad it all worked out for you. :)

Enabling sellers? Are you serious? So we should not buy anything on blade forums right? Because not everyone on here is an authorized dealer. Did you even read the original post? The knife I purchased had pictures of a real Pm2 and the guy had 100% feedback. I GUARANTEE you people have sold counterfeits on this site. And I have bought and sold 100 fold what you have (I also guarantee that) and know about counterfeits and knives in great detail. So save the lecture and post on my thread only if you have something constructive to say.

You don't have to like what I said. I was mainly referring to Ebay but you appear to have it all figured out.

How can you guarantee that you have bought and sold more knives than me? I have never bought a "clone" and I can GUARANTEE that.

I am still glad it all worked out for you. :) Sorry for sharing my two cents. :o I don't really want to argue but was rather just sharing my perspective. I just hate counterfeiters and I love Spyderco.

You specifically called me out by saying that I was supporting counterfeits and I took that offensively. I hate counterfeiters and I'm glad you have never had someone con you. But there was no way for me to know to what I was buying was not real. I ran a chain of pawn shops in my area for many years so I have much more experience than most people with seeing counterfeits and purchasing knives (and a lot of other things). I didn't mean for it to sound like I was attacking you and I apologize.

Sounds like the ol' bait & switch. Try to document your case as best you can and hope eBay helps you out.
You walk away poorer, but wiser. Consider it a $70 lesson about the dangers of purchasing highly counterfeited knives on eBay
