So the year is effectively over--this year's best and worst

I just realized I bought a LOT of knives this year.

IMHO, this year's best production fixed blades are Bark River's classic series. I can't get enough of them, I've got a Settler and a Sperati Point and I'm ready to order a couple more. :-)

There are a lot of folders I liked. The Endura and Delica 4 are probably two of the best, they've got it all, including a good price. The Subcom, after Boker gave it a much deserved steel upgrade, is another must have. The folder that surprised me the most was Kershaw's Gentleman Folder, a slim micarta handled lockback that has a very smooth action and a great VG-10 blade.

Bad things... the trouble at Camillus and the loss of jobs really sucked.

CRKT Sting
Boker subcom
Scrapyard 4 infi, some people got their's before the new year but probably not me.
Boker WW1 trench knife(personal fave but not one most would pick)

I'd say Ken Onion's custom knives getting stolen before the Evening at the Cutlery Arts was a big low point this year.

Best:

Kershaw ZT0200-Solid knife, and looks great with the TAD Gear thumbstuds on it.:D (Thanks Tx2)

Benchmade Vex-Man, next year, we are going to teach the Chinese how to take over the world economy, but in the meantime, this knife rocks! The politics behind the "hole" are a bit smelly, though.

R.J. Martin Havoc-Quite possibly the ultimate EDC. Don't care for the epoxy coating on everything, but the ergos, fit, finish, function and carry are the best! It is also EXTREMELY fun to flip, and the OVERALL aesthetics are super!

Worst:

Camillus fiasco-a tribute to what is WRONG with America, and a damned shame.

As an aside, the loss of Ron Gaston to the knife community will be felt for years to come. He will be missed. R.I.P.

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

Bark River has many home runs. I really like the Lil Chute. Great EDC.

Going with the trend the Benchmade Morpho was a huge hit. Al mars mini sere is a fantastic knife, not all together new but i love mine.

Flops is prolly cold steels mis hap with Carbon V steel and the consumer lacking the ability to get any knife until Jan. 07 that was previously made with that steel.

Ok, I'll add my .02$

Best: Mini Rukus and the Ti-ZDP Leek. (No problems w/ mine.)

Worst: I'm sad to see Camillus have probs.

Lookin' forward to next year. I think Kershaw will shine again.

Please forgive me if I have offended (tirod3)or anyone else for that matter regarding my Gerber comment. Years ago I had a very nice small collection of Gerber knives and then they were great knives. In my opinion Gerber has failed to keep up with the rest of the knife & tool manufaturers regarding materials and or quality. Sure, the premium knives they made years ago are still great knives today but that is just the couple mentioned by (tirod3) Someone where I work sold a Gator w/ATS-34 for $6.00 because he wanted the money to purchase a CRKT M-16. This is Gerber Premium Steel Huinting knife. I would love to see Gerber Slam the market at the next major knife show with some up to date builds including todays Steels and handle designs & materials. Something innovative that I just gotta have!!!! Not another Cheap feeling & looking Paraframe or Vector or Fatty. I still carry my Harsey Air Ranger now and then but that was not a THIS YEAR KNIFE.... Thats all. ~baba~

Didn't really know where you were going - suspected this what you meant.

And completely agree.

Happy New Year.
