So this fell into my hands....

Its on its way back to the seller who assured me a full refund. Learning opportunity for me. I was just pondering the new vs old purchase practice as it pertains to me. I do love the old knives, I generally buy to use was going to use this one until I found out it was a rare stamp. Im pretty new to traditionals as a primary focus when it comes to knives. With so many very high quality new knives coming on the market, I may just keep my old knife purchases to eaily identified and quantified items.

It will make a man think for sure Dave.

Problem is that it is SO difficult to tell without holding the actual knife in your hands. Plus with so many of the sellers having their knives professionally cleaned you have a harder time telling when something has been worked on. Which is exactly the reason why some do it in the first place covering their tracks. That is aside from the fact that I am not personally qualified to tell the difference on some of the modifications that are made.

And it showed up when I looked at your recent purchase. The handles looked like a possible rework to me but the bolsters looked original. I had no idea if the blade stamp was original.... and it turns out that it ~must~ be a forgery. Whether the blade was taken out and altered or done in place is something I wouldn't venture a guess on but if it was removed it must have been a pretty skilled dude!

You take a look at the blade left on some of the "mint" knives and it is shocking some times to see what gets sold and accepted as real. I've seen some reprofile jobs that took 10% up to even maybe 25% of the blade.

Well the same knife is for sale on that "bay" site. The seller did not divulge the nature of the knife so I reported it as counterfeit. Nobody else need fall into this trap.

No problem! Just wish I had someone stop me. The seller refunded me no problem. I though he at least would have sold it as a replica or something like that.

Sounds like he's going to keep putting that worm back on his hook until he gets some fish to swallow it. :(
