The real using ax is still in the works to be made. This is totally a different project than the small hand ax we're working on. Personally, I don't care for tactical tomahawks but we have been approached about producing a high-quality, USA made tactical tomahawk for them. We're contemplating it and just wanted to run it by everyone here. If we do this thing then we may well change up the design a bit to make it more rescue/crash ax while maintaining the cool look to it.
what kinda handle? i'd LOVE to see a one piece vietnam style tomahawk that isn't super expensive. i'm personally not a tomahawk kinda guy but i'd definitely get that. not too many one piece hawks out there and the ones that are available are quite pricey. i see a niche to fill if you can get the price reasonable.
I don't think I'd need one. There have been a few companies introducing those things lately and they just don't appeal to me. I'm in the same boat as some of the other guys here. I like a usable, functional camp axe or hawk, but not a combat specific tomahawk. I don't use them for killing, so it doesn't need to be designed as such. I like a hawk to have a hammering side and a cutting side. That's all.
I think it is a great idea. I have been looking for one for a while but have not really found one that sticks out to me yet. I would love an American made hawk from Rat Cutlery.
it has been tried and executed many times...but usually way to much in price...i would love to see a new updated usable model produced and in certain professions like mine it would be a welcome addition to my Car Kit.
For a good tactical tool that I think would be awesome to see is a throw-back to days way before the tomahawk...the war hammer. I think one would have some serious functionality, and be able to be used by multiple departments. I have some ruff designs I could show you if you would like to see what I'm talking about.

RC's have always seemed to scream to me 'function above all'. The blades (and I'm sure the axe) have always been reported to be extremely utilitarian woods tools, comfortable and reliable. They get a specific job done.
A hawk is neat, but not necessarily a great woods tool (or urban tool for that matter). It seems 'out of character' for RC to make a piece that doesn't really have a role.
But I don't even own stock, so this is worth whatcha paid for it. :foot:
Well, I have a feeling the "they" who asked about it were soldiers of some sort. I hear tomahawks are somewhat popular with troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. Designed properly, they are good for breaching and for killing. For that type of use, I don't think it's out of character for RC at all, as they've made some inroads with the "tactical" crowd with their USM RC3 and SERE RC5. To be honest, 'hawks aren't my thing, but there's obviously a market for them.
