So what do yall think about

I'd go more for a beard ax design. Given that several of the larger makers have had trouble with their tomahawk designs, I'm sure you guys would knock it out of the park.

What the knife world doesn't need is another Robert Heinlein meets Wes Craven - Starship Troopers on Elm Street tomahawk. :D

I'm sure you guys would do a fantastic job on it but personally I'd much rather see a large knife, khukri, or hatchet. I'd get much more use out of them than I would a hawk.

I'd buy one. I think it's about time for a high-quality Vietnam-style tomahawk that's affordable. SOG tried to do it, but all three of mine broke.

So Jeff, what military unit asked for it ;) ? They're more useful over in the sandbox than most people realize. Even if it only gets used once to breach a door or bust out a wall, it gives the person using it very high morale (and that's something sorely lacking over there). Something about holding a weapon (sorry, tool) like that just feels good.

So yeah, I'll take one. Maybe two depending on the price.

There is a need for a good Vietnam hawk, true to the orignal; (5 cutting edges, including beard): Priced somewhere between the SOG & Cold Steel versions and the pricey ATC VTAC, (which is really true to the original design - though some don't like the modern handle material).

There continues to be a demand for this style Hawk.

I'm in for one with a hammer poll instead of a spike. 15 inch handle instead of the 13 inch like CS used and a thinner edge.

I have one of the CS variety and a couple other hawks as well. I like tomahawks but usualy take a kukri to perform tha roll.

I have many different types of hawks from different designers/manufacturers. I love them, they are light and are a very useful tool in the woods and around the house. A hammer poll is much more usefull as a general tool/weapon. I'm always more than a little scared of stabing myself with the spike on a spike poll. The spike poll is also harder to carry safely, my hammer poll hawks I simply slip through my belt to carry them. I would not try this with a spike poll. There is always a trade off between weight and strength/durability. I also prefer longer @17"-19" drop in handles as they can be replaced easily or the hawk can be disassembled to make discrete carry in a bag easier. A drop in sythetic handle would be great! A lanyard hole is very desirable. If a one piece is designed, please make the handle material/slabs cover the handle all the way to the hawk head to make choking up easier and more comfortable. Why other manufactures do not do this I don't know? And a pry bar tip and the end of a one piece handle would be great. Yet another tool on the hawk.
What ever you guys at RAT do I'm sure we'll love it. So to answer your question Jeff, I would be very interested! Thank you!

This sounds cool. I have been debating between a Tops ATAX and a Cold Steel Rifleman's hawk for a while now. If the Rat chopper is somewhere in between it would be perfect.

Thought I had already posted on this, but... must have been a senior moment... :(

Anyways, I LIKE the Ontario SPAX for a crash axe, but don't really care for the prying end much. Much prefer the RD Hawk that Justin had with Ranger Knives, and it was a steal for $119.

But the full Cold Steel Tomahawk style combat hawks don't really do anything for me.

So +1 for a RC crash Axe, -1 for a RC battle hawk. :)

I would like to see some prototypes, But a well built light hawk for woods bumming my area is very handy, I've used one off and on for a while, on the other side, a solid tool for the car would be nice to see, especially with the RAT name on it.

If it had a grind that allowed it to split if need be, I'd be in. With the cost of a good machete being as low as it is, I don't need a hawk that can't both chop AND split. :)

That being said, if you make one I'll get it regardless of design, 'cause if it's RAT it's too awesome not to have. :D :D :D

I acually like the idea of a good factory made spike hawk, as in blade on one side / long spike pick on the other. I sometimes use my hawks to dig holes to go through roots and stuff, but I never have anything but the blade for breaking up rock and separating up the dirt. I've thought about getting one of the spike hawks that some of the guys in the knifemakers forum make, but most are too pretty or they're all gone by the time I get there. So, I'd like to get one of those, but still against the whole Viethawk idea. Battle hawks are still pretty useless to me, as I never go into battle. If you ever decide to do a spike hawk, do me a favor and make it a good long spike that comes to a blunt point. I'd like to be able to use it as a climbing axe, but I don't want to accidently put it through me.

I never got the spike thing. Then I saw a video on youtube of some vendor walking around a car flatening each tire with a single spike hit to each tire. The simplicity of it was kind of shocking. Not the sort of thing I'm looking for though.
