I hear varying arguments to this question, and it was suggested to me that I create a poll to get a good sample population. Here goes:

If you were looking at getting ONE SFNO for USAGE purposes, and it was to be in the standard .22 thickness, would you go with a sabre-ground version, or a full flat-ground version?

I would really appreciate it if you could also tell me why you would choose whichever one you chose. (Hopefully it will be a substantial reason, and not just because "it is the original")

Remember, this thing is going to be a user. I already have my safe-queen, thanks to KnifeHunter. Actually, it's also KnifeHunter who suggested I make this thread.;)

I'd take sabre ground for almost any knife. It adds a degree of beefiness, and well, I just like 'em fat! That's pretty much the extent of it! ;)

Can you tell me how it affects cutting/chopping/prying ability vs a flat-ground blade? And why were the FBMLE's made with flat grinds if sabre is better for chopping? Thanks

If I remember correctly, people said the full height ground FBM LE's are better at chopping than the sabre ground FFBM.

Even though I have both - I haven't actually used either! :o :o

Sabre all the way.:thumbup::thumbup:

Is their any doubt???

Have a great Memorial Day weekend!:D

Both are beautiful models from Busse, but I prefer a FSH over a SFNO any day....

Any Busse that's been offered in 0.345"+ is clearly gonna win me over!

I'm with Uncle_Jarvis - FSH > SFNO

(Keeping in mind I only have SFNO variants to compare against. Still, gimmie them fatties!)

I would want a sabre grind, otherwise it's functionally not much different than my Mud Razor (or any Hell Razor).

Hey Guyon, don't you have a beautiful custom shop SFNO you use? Man, if you're not into it that much, why don't you sell it to me?:D

Interesting, though the Hellrazor is .187 thick and SFNO is .22 thick.

I want a full flat grind. I can have a big knife size without the big knife weight.

("big" being relative, of course !)

.

I have a full height ground custom shop one. One sweet knife...

Want a CG w/ a Saber Grind someday too... :)

Well ... I've had great success with both in the chopping category. As long as the spine is nice and beefy.

The Sabre grind might just be a little more sexy ... :D

Ask me again after I've been chopping for a couple more years.

That's really not a significant difference in size at all. 0.033" - that's only two thou thicker than my Visa card! Not very thick!

The sabre grind adds a fair bit of weight (noticeable, when comparing my sabre vs full height FBM). That sabre grind can make a good difference when comparing it to the light and skinny hell Razor!

So far the Sabre-grind is winning, but no one has really delivered the knockout blow. I'm kinda starting to feel like the Sabre-grind thing is really kind of a "purist" ideal. (Not to offend anyone).

I'm looking for the knife to be an all-around user. Wifey would keep/use the BATACLE (if ever needed) and the SFNO would be my go to knife. For chopping I have an FBMLE. If I were out and about and only had the SFNO, would there really be that much of a difference between the Sabre and FF? Is there even a quantifiable difference in value on the secondary market? The prices I've seen have been so skewed anyway that I don't know there's really a difference. Can anyone shed any light?

Jason

I really doubt there's enough performance or even aesthetic difference ... to make a difference.

Go with your 'eye.' Whichever one gives you that good feeling.

Barring that, go with the dough -- the cheaper price. ;)
