So who bought a large and wished they got a small?

I am in just the reverse situation. I wanted an EDC and liked the look of the Mnandi, but decided that a Sebenza would be much better suited for the outdoor use I have planned. Then the decision between sizes began. I finally decided on a small Micarta 21 last week. I initially had no thoughts of the possibility of the size being too small, but they began creeping in since ordering. I guess that it's still not too late to change my mind.

07/08 Update: I called Heather, cancelled the small Micarta, and went for the large Micarta. I'm retired, wear only Levi's, live in a very rural area, have no office environment to contend with, and spend my days outdoors (usually with my dog). My favorite knife a forged hunter is 3/4" longer than a large and fits my hand perfectly.

The Mnandi is a super knife for lighter, more refined EDC - in an office context, for example. There is a very large difference in stoutness between the Mnandi and the small Sebenza that probably does not come across in photos, though.

Haven't carried my small reg. in about 5 or 6 years. Nice knife and I would never part with it but large is where its at for me.

I find that it doesnt feel much different in my pocket in volume or weight so I may as well carry it instead of the small.

I never saw a point in spending $350+ on an office knife. I mean the most you'll do is like open letters or boxes or maybe even string. In the office I think a SAK will suffice.

But yeah I decided I'll just stick with the large 21. I figure if it's too big I'll just sell/trade it for the small sometime down the road.

Keep in mind this is a woman speaking. ;)

What does that have to do with anything?

Anyhow, I have both large and small Sebs for EDC's. It depends on where an what I will be doing. Most days my small Classic is in my pocket. I've found it to do everything I've asked of it, including field dressing a white tail deer!

The large is a great outdoor camp/field knife. Keep in mind with a 3 1/2" blade the large Sebenza's are not real sheeple friendly. At work a lot of the time I do have my large Tanto Seb on me.

Bottom line is... have one of each if possible to swap out at your convenience. Overall, and if you're questioning... the small Classic is the one I would go with!

Nice Sebbies!

I like the large for EDC, and the small for PJ carry at night. Clipped on my undies, or gym shorts :D

I like the small, but it does feel a little too small for EDC. IMHO

Thought I was going to buy a small until I handled both, in person. The small is awesome, but when I held the Large Classic, I didn't want to put it down at all. I EDC a large in shorts, jeans, trousers, and dress suits (most of the week). Most of the time, it's in my back right pocket to the right of my wallet, and I never notice it, since the wallet is about the same thickness. I'm not a giant either, just average at 5'9" and 169 pounds.

(Never seen the tanto mentioned in the post above, but would love to see a pix)

I got my large regular a month or so ago and just love it. I decided it was little too big for bringing to the office (it's a engineering group with a lot of guys carrying knives but the large Sebbie seemed a tad too large even in that context). I thought I wanted a small one as well so I could be all Sebbed up during the week and then I'd carry the large after work and on the weekends. But I was underwhelmed by the small. The large seemed worth the $455 I paid for it but the small just didn't feel like $380 worth of knife to me, as nice as it was. It was almost exactly the same size and same blade shape as my Benchmade 707 which is a pretty decent piece. I ended up sending the small Sebbie back and gained a whole new appreciation for the Benchmade. But I absolutely love my large regular Sebbie. Carry it whenever I can and have no buyer's remorse whatsoever.

Not me. The large fits better in hand, feels the same clipped in the pocket, and is generally smoother.

Very quick and dirty, sorry.

Decorated Umfaan, old BG Small Regular I've EDC'ed for 8 years and recently refurbished a bit, Large Regular Tanto, Large Regular with shop swedge:

Man, that swedge makes it look like a completely different knife...is it functional or cosmetic?

^I happen to like the way it looks, so I guess it's both.

The swedge thins the spine out a bit, and makes the blade work better for poking into things. I find myself pulling out a fair amount of staples with the EDC, and the swedge is good at grabbing them and rotating them out. It's also handy as a secondary edge for opening boxes - it saves wear on the far end of the primary edge, which would otherwise get disproportionately beaten down.

The regular/swedge and tanto grinds yield completely different spine geometries. Will try to get a spine shot up a little later.

Thanks for the posts and information. Very nice collection.

I guess it's time for the old refrain -- that we need one of each...

Man, these are *really* bad. Sorry, don't have a macro at my disposal. You can get a pretty good sense, though:

And then for G/F, here they are with a couple of their buddies:
