So who has the new 0801 in black? I'm thinking of getting one soon

Well, she's finally here!

Oh damn. One word: Overbuilt :D

A lot heftier and larger than I had expected, but that's not necessarily a bad thing! I feel like I could pry open a tank hatch with this thing! I love it so far!

The looks are amazing, and I can definately tell this knife costs 170. Everything about is screams 'quality'

Congrats.

Personally, for the money, quality and customer service you can't top ZT 0801, 0801BLK and 0801BW if you're looking for a full-titanium FrameLock bearings flipper.

Regarding your overbuilt, hefty and large comments, ZT's catalog states:

HARD-CORE INNOVATION

Zero Tolerance made its first appearance in 2006. Initially, these made-in-the-USA, hard-use knives were designed to meet the needs of professionals, such as the military, law enforcement, as well as other first responders, including fire fighters and emergency medical personnel.

Today the line has expanded to include a variety of general-use and premium knives. And while many ZTs are larger, heavier knives, some customers won’t have anything else as an every day carrying knife.

In addition to their “built like a tank” construction, ZTs have also been recognized for use of the most advanced materials and technologies. Call it dedication. Call it obsession. Whatever it is, it’s something we intend to keep on doing so we can keep on building the kind of premium-quality, professional knives that ZT customers can depend on every single day.

No kidding.
For me, this is like the ESEE 5 of the folder world. But I definitely love it!
The flipping action disappointed me though. It's awesome like expected, but nothing magical like people were hyping it up to be.... My deassisted 0566 flips just as well (same smoothness and speed), and it doesn't have bearings, nor was it even designed to be a manual! Hmmm. Whatever

Haha, yes! The way people described this thing, I half expected it to open with a clap of thunder after the flipper was only lightly grazed :D

Something like this perhaps?

This knife is great. Love my black 801. The only problem is that I see the 801 blackwash is in stock. I just bought a CRK insingo last week and I swore that it was going to be my last folder ever. It is a dangerous knife, I let a co-worker handle it after he begged to see it, he managed to cut himself in the arm like an idiot. Luckily it was just a nick on the forearm. Don't ever let people borrow your knives I learned, lol.

Opinions vary and to each his own ofcourse but the black version doesn't really appeal to me. To me black(wash) finishes look good on rugged looking knives, not so much the sleek looking ones.

Think of it as a matt black finish on a car. It looks great on a musclecar but not so much on a sleek sportscar. The 0801 to me is the knife equivalent of a sportscar if that makes any sense ;)

Whatever floats yer boat!

One thing is for sure. This thing needs pimping! I'm wondering if there was any way someone could anodize every other vertical groove + the horizontal one on either side, red...... They would obviously have to strip the DLC coating off of the places they were going to do the anodizing, and I'm not even sure it's possible to anodize Ti red, but I think it would look pretty sick! Ill photoshop a picture later to give you a rough idea of what I'm talking about

That's cool, but RED IS THE BEST!!! :p

There's gotta be a way.....

Maybe a red coating baked into the grooves instead of the DLC it came with?

Most of the friction comes from the detent ball sliding on the blade tang. That applies to most liner and frame lock knives. So whether the pivot is washers or bearings, more often than not, it's plenty smooth. The benefit of bearings is there will be essentially no bladeplay, and perfect centering. I've seen some PB washer pivots that were just as smooth if not more than bearing pivots. But the detent ball friction is the kicker. The DLC finish on the blade is so slippery under the detent ball on this knife. So, in my opinion, the coated blades flip better.
