So why my stuff ain't selling

Proofreading. Your posts are full of basic grammatical and spelling errors. Everyone makes mistakes. I sure have. But in almost every post? That is not confidence building in a transaction partner.

To the OP: It happens sometimes. Try re posting in a couple weeks. Have good pictures, clear pricing and not too much text. Maybe knock off a few bucks or offer incentives for purchasing more than one item. Be patient and I'm sure they'll eventually sell.

Well... I would like to add my point of view. The point of view of someone living in Spain, on the other side of the pond, that is. Listing the knives CONUS ONLY leaves some potential buyers out. I don' really understand where is the risk for the seller. As long as you clearly state that the risk of loss and extra shipping charges are on the buyer.... its all good.

Recently I have bought two knives: Spyderco UK Pen Knife and Benchmade Minigrip from two gentlemen here in BF. Both transactions went smooooth. Payed through PayPal. First one got a fair extra charge for the shipping (+$20?) while the second one was cheaper (+$8?). Bot arrived within a week through USPS.

I hope this helps!

Stating that means nothing when an international buyer can just tell Paypal they received an empty box and oops, they need their money back, and suddenly you're on the hook ultimately leading to you having neither knife nor money to show for the transaction. And guess what, USPS* isn't going to be of any help with an international sale.

*Most buyers don't want to pay what Fedex or UPS would cost

Exactly, specially with budget blades like these.

Thanks for the feedback everyone!

I am not sure buyer protection applies to International sales unless something has changed recently

Well, as someone who has been stung three times in his life by Paypal giving money back to a buyer who claimed the item wasn't in the box when it was received, I only know what I've experienced. I am really hoping that has changed.

It's also why I never do business with international folks. Nothing personal, I'm just not ever getting scammed like that again.

Thanks Quiet. Been a long time since I did international sales so I may be mistaken

The knives nothing wrong with yours for sale obviously. I carry one of those bucks regularly but if I were to buy a used one it would have to be for real cheap, where it probably wouldn't be worth selling. Those are knives that turn into permanent truck knives, back ups, or traveling knives, they are dependable, but if they get stolen or lost not to many tears. Just my observation and I wouldn't have shared if you didn't ask.

Is this was to happen... What's the difference between a CONUS buyer and an international one? Both could claim the very same thing....

It's much easier for us to take action against a person who cheats us, if they live CONUS. An international person that may be dishonest, would be too hard to reach.

I have the same problem as I think we all do at any given time. It can be frustrating. What's the answer? There isn't one. Take better pictures? I've seen guys sell knives within a few minutes of posting their ads and have no pictures with it. Lower the prices? I'll post a NIB knife for 50 - 75% or more off of what you could buy it anywhere else and still no sale. Yet other times mine will be snapped up almost as soon as I post the ad. Same camera that I always use to take my "less then professional " pictures. Same format for my descriptions. Same fair (IMO) pricing yet one sells and the other doesn't. Go figure  Several people here have made great suggestions on what you could do but in the long run, it's still a crap shoot.

I'm not a dealer or a knife maker so it's not a big deal if I don't sell my knives. If I don't sell one it just slows me down for getting more. That's where I get my "knife money". I sell what I have so I can buy different ones.;) It's just a hobby for me.

Hang in there.

Just depends on how the market is feeling at the time. As mentioned, some very nice photos and an accurate description of the items for sale helps the most. People buying online want as much info about what they are buying before committing. I've also found the the time when you post affects sales too. Posting during the week does not get as many hits as does posting on a Friday or Saturday afternoon. Just remain patient and repost in a few weeks.

If I have an address and a name from someone in the US who tries to scam me, I can look up, and contact their local law enforcement and I have a good chance of effecting some sort of retribution for the scam. Let's say you scammed me, as an example. Bilbao, Spain? I don't even know where that is on a map, and I've been to Spain. Not to mention, who would I call? What police jurisdiction would I call? Who could I talk to who wouldn't see my international phone number and think "Meh, probably some foreigner trying to scam a Spanish citizen" and hang up on me? I have no idea what the answers to those questions are.

I DO know though, that a call to a Sheriff and an email full of a paper trail for someone here will get me either my money or property back. I've got experience at that particular game too.

OK Quiet, I get your point! Next time I will offer to pay through F&F in order for the seller to feel more confident about the transaction!

Unfortunately, paypal F&F is not the answer, since a foreign buyer could use a credit card with paypal, and then reverse the charges with the card company, complaining that the proper item was not received. Some thieves will use a stolen credit card, to fund a paypal purchase, and it will also get reversed, when the bank takes action. The only safe way is probably Western Union, but foreign buyers don't like to use that method. For the serious foreign buyer, there are freight forwarding companies, and you can find discussion threads about that option.

Many members here are going to be headed to Blade shortly. I know my buying slows way down from Christmas to the Blade Show. There are a few I really want right now but I am waiting to get them at Blade.

If you have a good reputation on the forums, people are more willing to deal with you internationally.

It happens sometimes. Your stuff takes forever to sell, and when it does the manufacturer discontinues it and the going price is suddenly double what you just sold it for. And then 6 years later you'll get an email from somebody asking if it's still available even though you clearly marked it as "sold".

It's funny because it's true!!! :)
