So would you rehandle this?

This is the knife I have. It will never go anywhere. It is a factory combat grade satin SHBM. I found a really cool handle material to use on this. But I am not sure. Resale value is irrelevant, as I will not sell it. But I don't know if I should or not. and I may damage the original handles pulling them off. Would you guys rehandle this if you found a material you thought was incredible.

depends on the incredible handle material for me.

Yes, just keep the handles and drilled out rivets to send back with the blade for warranty repairs if you ever need to.

No, I would do it. Rehandling that would take it to a new dimension

It would have to be some serious handle material and I still probably wouldn't.

I guess I look at it this way. I'm currently redoing a 1970 formula that I've owned since I was 16. Happened to turn out to be kinda rare car being ram air. Anyway it's blue now there are some really awesome blue paints to choose from today. But to me my car was born a certain color blue. That's what I've had, it's the way it's been and the way it will stay. I to could care less about resale, it's my car and it's not going anywhere.

Just my .02 worth :)

Not for me, but if you love it, well .......................I still would not do it :)

this is the handle material. Am I stupid for loving this?

I could be wrong but I do not think this would fall under the warranty.
I am pretty sure you would have to pay to have Busse re-handle, if you drilled out the tubes.

It's your ball of string, man - do what makes you love the knife the best.

I think you answered your own question by telling us it is your knife, never to be sold. Who cares what the guy in your estate sale thinks of the handle material?

If you want those handles then go ahead and make yourself happy, besides I have a feeling you have a couple more SHBMs.

Personally, I'd only do it if I was 99.9% sure I wouldn't damage the original handles. I'm just like that.

I would treat this like a tattoo, both being vanity 'items'… give it six months and if you still feel the desire go for it.

Personally, that thing is a classic and I wouldn't touch it… I just don't see it getting any more impressive than what you already have. Now if it bothered you in use, I could totally justify changing out the handle for something more suitable.

Since you asked, nope I absolutely would not.
I think it's too flashy for such an iconic classy blade... just my opinion.

Good news is, if you put those awful handles on it, you won't have to worry about changing your mind about selling it. No one will buy it! Hehe

On a side note, will contouring the handles just make too much of the solid green show and lose the pattern?
If you do it I think you should do some test grinding on an offcut first, to make sure it will turn out the way you envision.

That knife is incredible, as is, and even the d-guard compliments it.

If you're really in love with that handle material--check this out: What do you think about putting it on another knife you're always packing, using, and/or fondling?

Your posted SHBM sounds like she doesn't get out of the vault too often.

This way you don't deface a classic that is perfectly cherry as is...and you get to use/view handle material you admire often....win/win :thumbup:/:thumbup:

Any way you go...NO REGRETS!

It doesn't matter what we think of the handle material.

Make that knife your own.
