So would you rehandle this?

So, thanks for the advice. I do appreciate it. What I am going to do is take one of these and put that handle material on it. See how I like it first. If I do not care for it after 3-4 months then no, but if it hits me like it does now, then I will go for it.

Here is my two cents, if you like it, go for it. It will be yours just the way you like it. That being said, I would try and preserve the originals and store them in a nice safe place, just in case. I kinda of like the look. Its going to end up looking sort of like "Hells Leprechaun Battle Blade". No need to thank me for naming it, just glad Im here to help.

this is the handle material. Am I stupid for loving this?

Sounds like a solid plan

Not crazy. I wouldn't worry about damaging the original scales

Post pics of the finished product please.

No sense in ruining the existing setup if I end up not liking the material in person. I will probably drop the green black handle above for this new material.

Sounds like you have a plan. But I would add, I wouldn't do it, and I'm a BIG fan of green. Anything. But the two don't seem to "GO" together. But I will admit I also have a bit of a Bias. While I'm a huge fan of green, I'm not a big fan of flash on my blades. I am having a hard time warming up to the bright blue/black on my DTBM.

But really, I think you have a good plan.

I quite like the look of that material, and I think that it would look on your SHBM. If resale value is of no concern, then make it the blade you want it to be and enjoy it as your own.

I am a big fan of green. One reason why I like those scales. When you say the two don't go together what did you mean, the green and ?

I am amazed at how polarized opinions are. Kinda cool to watch..lol

Do it and if you don't like it, I will buy it from you. One of a kind stuff I like.

Go for it! You should be able to get the old handles off without damaging them, as long as they're just held on by the tubes.

:thumbup:Sounds like a good plan. Personally I like the original handles, but that's just my opinion.

I like the material, not so much the green, but the pattern is cool.
If this started popping up in the grab bags or on show knives, I guarantee Jerry couldn't make enough and the shop would be doing a lot of rehandle work.
I think your plan is good.
Use some mechanical fasteners and then you can switch them out whenever you feel like it.

One thing to be aware of though, that material may have wire in the layering. Whoever you get to make & shape the scales will have to meticulously pick out any that look like they could stick into your hand when chopping... Even then... sometime down the track you could get nipped...

I had the same issue having a chopper made with Blue Mylar Carbon Fibre scales..... So far so good for me!

Good Luck!

The material just doesn't fit very well with the old school BM in my eye. The old micarta is just better.

This is what I meant, Cobalt. Maybe it is because I so used to seeing the original scales on the Busses. Although, I didn't have an issue of scales not "going" with a knife when they had the odd scales coming out of the custom shop for the Grab Bags. So, I dunno. It's your knife, make it yours. It still would definitely be a knife I would not turn my nose up at, if you know what I mean.
