So would you rehandle this?

One thing to be aware of though, that material may have wire in the layering. Whoever you get to make & shape the scales will have to meticulously pick out any that look like they could stick into your hand when chopping... Even then... sometime down the track you could get nipped...

I had the same issue having a chopper made with Blue Mylar Carbon Fibre scales..... So far so good for me!

Good Luck!

Lawrie

I would love to see your blade.

There is no doubt that doing this is an unknown as I have not seen that material on a big chopper. So it is risky and being very expensive it is a one time shot for me.

Aesthetically the original is going to have a lot more fans I bet. Showy neon colors are attention grabbers but not something I'd want to look at for an extended period of time. It'll be like when neon oreos came out they were interesting at first then you wanted to have the original back

I'm currently working to get black canvas on all my satin blades. This idea seems horrifying to me.

If you lived closer, I'd orchestrate an intervention. And scotch tasting. It would be a very tasty intervention. :)

As long as you like the material, I say go for it. It's your blade, so it should suit you and your tastes. Anyone else's opinion is irrelevant.

Personally, I like tan canvas and all but one of my Busses and kin have it. Boring as it gets, but they're my knives, so they're how I like them.

Do it! Use hardware so you can go back. Or get another color combo when you want. Plus sheppardcc does amazing work and can make you a few sets. Ive had him do several handles for me and have never been unhappy. Im sending my regrind tglb to him for some cf handles. Should be awesome. Ill post pics when its done but why not make it the way you want it. Going back is just 3 screws. [emoji109][emoji109]

Cobalt, the "lightning strike" handle materials do have copper and other fine wires interwoven, just like loz noted...

They will work their way to the surface and have to be pulled out, snipped off, or carefully sanded down...

Lightning strike is stunning in appearance, but not so nice for fondling <IMHO>

Do it! That will look wicked in that blade for sure. Of course post pics when finished.

It's your knife.....and if you like it that's what's important.

You set old scales aside and it's no biggie to restore should you change your mind or decide to sell down the road.

I've done it on motorcycles, classic cars (which I caught the most grief) and a classic boat. I have a storeroom full of parts I've pulled off.

The great thing about Busse is they are there when you inadvertently F'up a blade. They've got your back

What he said.

But it's your blade, so whatever makes ya happy.

I am kinda not liking the copper strand crap. I thought it was just cool cf.

Ok, found out strands are aluminum and they do not come out.

It's not my cup of tea, but then again, it isn't my knife. That's the beauty of it, we can choose.

And by saying "we can choose", I'm not implying we get to choose for you, rather we get to make our own choice for ourselves.

What a bunch of haters:D

Seriously though it is always hard to gauge if you will really like something until you do it.

So I decided to send a satin ashbm for these handles. I did not like the handles that came on it anyway. The blade itself is awesome.
