So, you have a pretty knife, but what do you use when you need to cut

I picked up this Imperial lockback from the KnifeCenter KnifeCenter as a giveaway when I purchased something from them a while back, but it just never ever keeps an edge. Steel is quite soft so the edge dulls rapidly, but being a freebie it's not something you'd send back for poor blade steel. I used this for box opening as some boxes are taped up with the fiberglass strands which can easily dull a blade but this little guy I wasn't worried about harming the edge...it was just something to abuse ;)

I've gotten quite tired of the edge dulling so quickly so today I ordered this one as a replacement for such duties, it will remain at my desk and I think it will do pretty good. Probably will need touching up when it goes against those fiberglass type tapes but that isn't too often.

borrowed photo, it is a Civivi KI-V Plus

I haven't got this yet, but sometime soon, I'll report back how well that handles those box cutting chores.

Firefly fan? That show is a classic, and personal favorite.
Definitely a fan of the show, that is a board that I made to sit on a drawer to make an additional work space at my desk, there are two routed grooves that sit atop the sides of the drawer. I made the transfer to the wood using an inkjet printer and then sealed it with some spray coating to protect it.

Any knife that I’m carrying is subject to be used for whatever need I’m presented with. But from a practical perspective I’m only likely to have a filet knife when I’m fishing or a substantial fixed blade when I’m hunting. When setting out for a construction project or to repair equipment or vehicles I surely we grab a knife appropriate for the task at hand. That said it would be strange for me to remove the EDC of the moment from my pocket so the specialized knives mentioned would be in addition to my EDC.

I generally work in an office environment so my EDC is pretty safe. I’m glad to slip a more expensive, pretty knife in my pocket. The few “safe queen” knives that I would be disappointed to deface, I have a duplicate with a few miles on it that I never hesitate to use. Ultimately they are tools. I don’t idolize them.

When the real work needs to be done, it's usually this guy who gets the job done...

But this guy also gets pressed in to duty quite a bit too...

I use whatever's in my pocket, but when it's time to put on the grubby work clothes, I usually grab this one. Tough to beat such a fantastic general purpose/EDC folder design, imo. I don't need to field dress a Buick.

Spyderco Delica 4
There's so many knives to pick from anymore, ultra precisely machined titanium wonder knives, with exotic steels etc. etc., but I still contend the modest and dare I say, homely, Delica is the best all around EDC anyone has ever cooked up. The dam thing is just sensible in every way , Plus that satisfying "CLACK!!" when opened!

Whatevers in my pocket. I dont carry or wear jewelry. A knife too pretty to use is that. Pocket clutter jewelry. If im carrying a knife its going to be used when needed. If it gets dirty or broken? That sucks, but its just an item.
