So, you have a pretty knife, but what do you use when you need to cut

This is my all around everything knife. I started using it some time back because I did not like it's blade design. It has grown on me. The grip ergo is perfect.

Something about that mutha just looks like it could do some CUTTIN'!
Thanks! It's clearly been a test bed for my attempts at mods as well as new sharpeners. It's the resident abuser.

I'm sure lots of us with too many knives end up with ones that get regulated to certain duties. As far as other beaters, I have an XM that is my yard/house project champ, a Manix that lives in my swim shorts all summer, and a copper Natrix XL that is the cardboard destroyer, along with a REX45 Native garage beater.

In 2004, our son "surged" into Iraq as a Marine Lt and platoon leader.

I sent him off with both a Randall #1 and a Chris Reeve Green Beret. At different times he carried one or the other for weeks at a time outside the wire mounted on his plate carrier or strapped to a thigh rig. His unit participated in the Battle of Fallujah and at Ramadi.

When he deployed a second time, he left the Randall at home and took only the CRK as his serious large knife.

That says a lot about how he viewed using his "pretty knife" in a hot war zone.

I'm a firm believer in the "Right tool for the right job", with that being said if it's the right job I'll use the knife I'm carrying regardless. Regretably I've had to abuse some of them due to lack of the proper tool in an emergency (I had to cut bike shifter cable with my Hinderer a few months back).

Pretty sure having a Hinderer on you for that was nearly best case scenario outside of cable cutters! :)

This thread has gotten me to reevaluate my current collection and I think that means there’s going to be a bunch of folders up for sale soon
Going to move the Manly city knife to the right front pocket and go with that for a while

If I'm not going to carry and use it, I won't keep it. I'll sell it and that will be that.

This is my daily user. You'll see these occasionally come up for sale, and they aren't cheap, but it sure does feel great to carry and use. Maybe a little thick behind the edge, but still slices like a dream. In this case, my pretty knife IS my go to cutter.

But I also had this, and sold it because I couldn't bear to use it and see that amount of value go down the drain whenever I inevitably marked it. Maybe one day...

I no longer own what I would consider any “pretty” knives. Found myself not wanting to actually use them. Go to work knife lately has been the Civivi Qubit. Bought it on a whim and it has surpassed all expectation. Great cutter and easy to maintain. Comfortable handle and a well executed button lock make it very enjoyable to use.

I use my K390 Endela. I had Manly City too, but I like this much better.

I stopped to care about corrosion and I like the handle and size of Endela much better than Delica or Endura.
With Manly City - I really started to hate that finger choil up front.

This is one on my most carried knives!
Great steel and great size!
