I voted theirs, just because most places serve on a plate or cast iron. I'm not jacking up my nice edge cutting on that. If they bring it out on a cutting board or something like that, it's a different story.

any place that serves steak and only has plastic knives or falling apart knives....id worry more about why I ordered a steak from there or why im even eating there.... than what knife im gonna use to cut it.

Ah!
Most steaks (in my area) are served on a glass dinner plate but then you get the sides and fixings and at the end youre using your water cup to clean your dirty knife, which may either be a spectacle or not (depending)

Mine..."Solo 2" from Spyderco, these came out way back in the mid-90s and just never got the attention from dealers that they deserved🥲

I think about this whenever I see members here posting cut steaks from plates.

Then again, knives are for using and cutting steak is an excellent opportunity to relish a fine cutting tool. In these moments, simple steels are king.

I've used my own a few times when I was served only plastic knives or butter knives that were simply incapable. Otherwise I'll use whatever hacksaw they give me and spare my edges the hits against ceramic.

I don't usually bother with steaks at restaurants anyway, but I seem to end up at bbq joints pretty often. In those cases it's "weapons free" and I use my own.

Of course, this is my go-to:

Those bread sentries wont stand a chance!
Full story, DMs Arcolinea that I snagged on the secondary inspired me to commission a few more kitchen knives with the same handle material as a gift to my wife, and an excuse to get rid of the last of the beat up wusthofs from the knife drawer 😁 I'd be lying if I said I wasn't looking forward to using them all myself!
