I voted for the second option, but it really depends on if I am carrying a GEC or my Sebenza, or one of my cheapskate specials. Honestly, that is why I enjoy my cheapskate specials, I will use them without a thought, and if I drop one I will throw that thing back in the pocket without a glance. I am more protective over knives that are expensive or not easily replaced.

me2 gets it. If it's a BF chef's knife and I'm in the kitchen cooking barefooted I try to get my foot out of the way. This was a learned response...I wasn't fast enough!

I’ve been able to nudge the knife sideways with my boot every time I’ve tried, to minimize inertia/damage. Hopefully my luck doesn’t run out, I wouldn’t do it if I weren’t wearing boots.
I was going to say that I also get my feet out of the way. What was that song verse on Hee Haw....? Oh, yes:

If it weren't for bad luck
I'd have no luck at all.

Fits me to a tee.

Went to the mailbox years ago, striped platan sebenza 21 in pocket, maybe a month old at best. Went to grab knife for some reason as I walked back to the house, probably just admiring it. It slipped outta my hand, in my focused state, I tried to catch it with intent and wound up basically tossing it. Basically flung it down the concrete for a few feet.

I was a little uneasy about it for a bit, but honestly, it turned it into an immediate user as I intended. Been dropped a few other times since then. It's amazing how tough these sebenza inlays are.

I didn't see "curse" on the list of options.

My first response involves profanity.
Came here looking for this. First answer right off the bat, and the right one.

“F_ck, f_ck, f_ckity, f_ck!” is usually my first action. Then I look for “bugger marks” and rub em to make me feel better. Then, I chunk it back in my pocket and get on with life. It happens.

Unless it’s tip down on tile….. I have some horror stories. Snapped 1/4” smooth off the tip of a Trace Rinaldi LEO. Nearly cried, but I sent it to him and he sent it back twice as nice.

Also, I have dropped every single Buck knife I have ever owned tip down on concrete or tile. Lord knows why, but it’s become a joke to me.

My first thought is ~ Son of a bitch ~ Then I go about picking it up wondering if I am disappointed that my knife is damaged or can I use it as a good excuse to buy a New One
