SoCal Knife Shops

Coincidentally, I had Jury Duty in downtown L.A. for a three excruciating days this week and I visited Ross Cutlery on Broadway. Lots of kitchen knives and shaving apparatus. Some Spyderco and Benchmade but not much variety in anything of great quality. I was all done in about 10 minutes.

I think Advance Cutlery is closed.

Ross is highly overrated, in my opinion. They used to always get high praise in the better LA mags as being "The" place where chefs got their knives sharpened. I tested that theory years ago, and they really screwed up a chef's knife, fillet knife, and utility knife I had them "sharpen". Looked like they used one of those nonsense machines you see on late night TV. I'd say the only notable thing about that business, is that it's in the amazing Bradbury Building, and across the street from Grand Central Market.

Ya Ross cutlery always has random stuff. The owner is the father of the owner of Protech. So he always has the latest and greatest Protech stuff. A lot of cops shop there I've noticed. It's located in such a place that you would want a cop in the store at all times lol

It's safe during the day since it's across the street from the Grand Central Market and LAPD HQ is a third of a mile away.

Back 10 or 15 years ago, they also had a lot of customs. I haven't been there for some time but I think they sell mostly production knives now.

Martin B. Retting in Culver City has a goodly variety of Benchmade and Spyderco knives in the cases, some antique/vintage swords and bayonets, as well as the occasional oddball or custom knife that has come in from an estate. It's worth a look if you are in the area. Oh, and they sell guns too.

I'm blessed to have Plaza Cutlery be on my way home from work, just a one minute detour. It's an amazing place.

Yep, although unless you're more disciplined that I am, your wallet may be suffering from the experience. ;)

Main Street Ventura has a not so bad cutlery store. Bench made Spyderco and the like.

Those Duane Dwyer customs are the lightest I've held. The Chavez is nice and same with the new mini 25s inkosi, such a good feel and now I want one.
What's good about plaza is you can buy from their website if you don't have the luxury of driving by after work everyday. Lol
