Sodbuster...and lots of them!

I have the tan micarta version, it's outstanding! No lock rock and really smooth open with no half stop. I also hope that they convince GEC to make a lock version of the 71, would be nice!

I do hope they make a smaller version, since for me, the soddy junior is perfectly sized for EDC. That said, the optional belt sheath for that S&S's is a stunner as well.

Z0mbiSl4y3r Great collection there!!! I have a lot of the German Bull models ( GB 111 and 107) and like them a lot. There was a limited run of the H&R Stag lock backs (HR 6001) that was great too! There was also a German Bull that has top nickel silver bolsters (GB 111A).....The Rough Rider models are a good value for the price...

Farm lock? I'm not familiar with that knife, which company makes it?

I think he's referring to the GEC #99 Farmer Lock. The Wallstreet is also built on that frame and is a nice upgrade in handle materials if that is more your style.

That's it, also available in orange delrin with spear point on a site for collectors knives. They also list a "GEC 2013 Northfield Cocobolo Wood Bull Thumb Lock"
bull nose blade and shape with lock

Well, after much searching the double you, double you, double you, I finally found a source for made in Germany 100% German Eye sod buster juniors. I kinda' went off the reservation and went native/rogue with my plastic, and purchased two of these Teutonic beauties, and one GEC Bull Nose in orange....

Small but mighty!

I've run across photos of your knife more that once, Paul, and each time I think, "Very nice!!!" Congrats!

(And I'll bet "small but mighty" will be an apt description of your "impending" baby :D)

Wish I knew you were looking, I had found them a couple of months back. I have one of each of the colors with shield in route as we speak. Let us know what you think!

I will; in the mean time, I see you have the Eye Brand's without the shield (the same, just no shield)...what do you think of them?

The only issue I have is with the red one, it has a stiff pull of about an 8 on the scale. All others can be pinched open and have good walk and talk. The fit and finish is pretty good, but not perfect. Very minor cosmetic issues that have no functional effect on the knife. I've come to accept that on sodbusters since they are a working knife. I do really like that they are thin in the handle for an easy pocket carry and thin in the blade profile for good slicing and cutting. All and all I think they make a good choice for a carry knife. Let me know what you think when they land!

Will do trev. I managed to catch the store owner before he got my order, and decided to just order one soddy jr in black with the shield to insure that I like them enough to collect additional colors. I'm kinda' stoked to try out a 100% made in Solingen knife, seing as a lot of the big name Euro companies have outsourced a lot of their manufacturing to China...either 100% made in China, or offering "hybrid" knives, with steel or parts made over there, with final assembly with some parts or steel from here. I got to confirm that this Eye Brand is the real Solingen deal, and that was the deal maker.:)

There are still a few Solingen knife companies that still 100% manufacture their knives. Robert Herder, Heinrich Schmitz and Friedrich Olbertz(makers of the Eye brand). Barry has posted pics on his facebook page showing the shop where the Eye Brands are made by hand, very cool stuff. I received all five of my Shielded 99jr's in the mail today. All were nice and all able to be pinched open. You should be happy with them, let me know what you think!

trevytrev, way back at the start of this thread, you posted fantastic photos of all your sodbusters in various "family groupings"; unbelievable collection!:thumbup:

A couple of the photos showed your Spanish sodbusters or navaja de campana (don't know how to put the tilde over the last n ). Do you have a favorite among those, or is there one brand/style you'd recommend over the others? I'm planning a trip to Spain and hope to spend some time knife shopping. Thanks!

Thanks 5K, glad you like the pics!

The Celaya and the Aitors are probably the best out of the ones I have. Better fit and finish and the Celayas have many handle options. Have fun in Spain, you should have a blast over there! If you run across any soddies for a fair price and have some extra cash pick me one up, I'll pay you for your troubles or trade something!:D

Speaking of Soddy's, it doesn't get any better than this new arrival...Bull Nose from Mike L. I was lucky to find one...

Congrats Al, is that your first Bullnose? Would love to hear your impressions on it since I know you are a soddie guy too. To me, it's probably the best production soddie out there but look forward to you opinion!

Thanks trev, and yes, in the short time I've had it, I have to say I know of no production soddy that beats the GEC #71. I have Case, both in bone and Delrin, and while the Case's are work horses that can take a beating, this GEC is definitely a cut above...it just feels so much more rugged and heftier than my Case soddy's; and I have to add, the addition of lanyard tube is just the cherry on top. Looking at my Case sodbuster's, I see no reason why they cannot include this feature...the room is there.

Yes, I'm a big sodbuster fan, but I've been so busy chasing down SAK grail's, that I haven't been paying much attention to my other knife passion, the sodbuster.:)

Oh, and yes, this is my first GEC Bull Nose, and I'm lucky to get it seeing as they're hard to find in most places.

trev, thanks for the recommendations! The Celayas you showed in smooth bone and stag were real eye candy :thumbup:
If I see soddies in Spain at a fair price (you may have to email me a definition of "fair price", since I currently have no sodbusters), do you have a preference for either carbon or stainless? I noticed that most of your navaja de campana are stainless; was that intentional or just something that happened? :p

I'm certainly looking forward to my trip, since my daughter lives in Madrid, and I hope to return with at least one sharp souvenir!
