Sodbuster & Rancher

I finally got one of these ordered (black Rucarta Rancher) after seeing they were in stock again. I'm looking forward to the pics so I know what I have coming!

OK. Here are a few pics, illustrating the handle thickness of each (yellow Delrin vs. black Rucarta). I would've taken some more, but my camera card is full, so I'll have to offload those and free up some more space on it. :)

Thanks for the great pictures. I have a black Rucarta Rancher in the mail, can't wait to see it.

Chris.

I have the yellow rancher and this is my first sodbuster type knife so I won't compare it directly to the Case Sodbuster, Jr. However, in general the f&f of the AGR is excellent and compares favorably with more expensive knives. I have been using the knife in the garden and use it in lieu of small pruners to cut small roots, small branches, divide small plants, etc., and for those chores it is an excellent tool. I am thinking of adding a lanyard so I can easily find it in my pocket.

Got my "Cowboy" model today, now this is a slipjoint for big boys!!!

With a Buck 110 for comparison.

Great pics - thanks

(my credit card is slightly less grateful, of course :D)

I just got my black rancher today and I too was really surprised at how thick it was. I've never had a sodbuster before and I was kind of excited when I saw the OP that the yellow looked to be thinner. Not sure how I feel, sort of wish they would have made that a little more clear on the AG Russell website.

What's interesting is it appears the rancher is even thicker than ebony/black rucarta cowboy if you look at the above picks.

Definitely feels good and substantial in your hand. I sort of want a thinner one now, just not feeling/liking the yellow delrin. Oh well.

Really nice knife for the price. Fit/Finish is great, blade centered, very sharp. I'm impressed. I actually think it would make a very nice lockback given it's thickness.

My black Rucarta Rancher actually IS a tiny bit thicker than the (larger) Cowboy model with the same handle material. Measured at the pivot end with a dial caliper, the Rancher is 0.52" thick, the Cowboy is 0.50". Just a subtle difference in finishing, I'm sure. But, it's all the more noticable on the smaller knife. I like that 'beefy' heft, though.

Coincidentally, just for comparison, my stainless Case Sodbuster Jr. is exactly the same thickness as the Rancher (0.52"), measured at the pivot end. My large stainless Case soddie is 0.56" thick at the pivot.
