Hey All, just a quick thread regarding my amazment as to the Simplicity of Function and Design of the Sodbuster style knife. I posted a thread a few weeks ago asking for thoughts and reviews of the members here and their Sodbuster usage. I picked up a Large German Eye w/Soleingen Steel as well as a Case Sodbuster Jr w/CV Blade. I have to tell you I am Amazed as to how well these knives hold up to day in and day out usage. I am also Amazed as to how sharp they came and stayed. I have finally had to touch up the German eye but a few passes over a steel and it was a Razor! The Case is used alot and is still Sharp as heck. I have let several people at work use these 2 knives here and there and I have been asked to get the Case Jr for 4 people. They really liked the size and simplicity and ease of use. I am sure there are those who will say that the lack of a locking system is not for them, but I don't do the heavy duty cutting now I use to. I would love to hear your thoughts on Sodbuster style knives as well as any photos... Thanks ~baba~

I had and carried an old black handled Sodbuster about 30 years ago. Back then I preferred it over my Buck 110 because it offered a better 'feel' in hand and seemed to sharpen easier and hold an edge better. This was before I any clue about steel type or anything else. The lack of a lock didn't bother me at all.

At this point in time however, I have become so spoiled opening my folders with one hand that I don't carry any thing larger than a small stockman that doesn't have this feature.

Re: the photo-looks very good, the exposure and processing are dead on. The compositional elements of the background with the water drops and the arrangement of the knives is also good with one small 'niggle'. The perspective of the knives due to the angle of the shot feels\looks just a hair off. Perhaps shooting it from a higher angle would help this?

Thanks for the Thread! I love my Sods, Case 2138 and Eye Brand, are my favs.

2000 Dodge Dakota hood at around 7am. Morning due is Cool. The Higher angle is a great thought as is a tripod and timer.

Here again the principle of K.I.S.S. ( keep it simple stupid ) comes to mind. I have been carrying a Sodbuster again along with a full size trapper, not at the same time. Yes, I like my Benchmade knives but there is something to be said of a good slip joint that fits the hand well and does what a knife is was meant to do. Great pictures.

I gave $40. for the large german eye and $24. for the Case Jr. I Just ordered a pair of Case Jr's for my two hunting pals of 30 years. I am sure they will love them during this years Michigan Deer Season! I need to Contact ~K R Johnson~ and see what it would take to get one of his Custom Sodies and if he has any material options???

Yeah, I love Sodbusters, but I want that Case lockback? Is it still made? Approximately how much did it cost?

I have a Queen in D2.

The edge on it last for ever.
It has a stong snap to it so it will not close too easliy, but soft enough to be able to pinch open it.
A solid working knife all for $22.
What an understated knife!

I prefer a lock. For some reason, I have never been a fan of the stockmans, peanuts, etc. I do carry the occasional SAK now and then.

Nevertheless, I can certainly appreciate those beautiful knives, the craftsmanship, and their simplicity.

I often carry a UK Pen Knife, which is similar except with a few modern updates (Spyderhole and their sense of ergos, S30V steel, pocket clip etc.). I do like the simplicity of the UKPK and the sodbuster though.

Great thread! ...bad timing though since I just bought, and have incoming, a Spydie Uk Pen Knife (which will be my first spyderco)...

I used to have a Sodbuster Jr. I picked it up for like $20 just because I was amazed that it was made in USA still. The knife's edge was outstanding. I was haingin out with this French chick this winter and she was traveling without a knife, so I gave it to her. I think I'm gonna cantact her and see how she's doin! ...Oh and get another Sodbuster while I'm at it!

I'd be interested in seeing any custom or customized pics if N E 1 has 1!

Here is a shot of the Case lockback part# for those who asked and I tossed in the other Slippies I EDC on a Regular basis. Maybe, I have gone Full Circle in my knife Collecting? Really, the more Basic and Simple the more I seem to Enjoy them... What say You????

My first nice knife was a Boker Canoe... it was excellent! ... lost it in the Rio Grande river.

Simple is what I'm all about... that's what got me into the Sebenza. I may be coming full circle as well... what with the Spydie UKPK incoming and all. ...looking forward to a slip joint!

You are SO dead on about the Sebenza! I have a small I just got back from CRK getting a 2 year check up and edge counseling... That little sucka screams "SIMPFUNCTIONAL".

I love sodbusters. They turned me onto traditional slipjoints for sure. I spent a few hours rebeveling a Queen soddie but I think the time spent is worth it.
