SODBUSTERS... bust 'em out, work 'em hard and show 'em off

I didn’t want to start a new thread but I’m interested in getting peoples opinion on the new Case XR Sodbuster Jr.

I’m excited about them but they have features that get them closer to the line dividing traditional and modern. Through-blade nail nicks/holes, screw-together construction, S35VN steel and modern materials like micarta and laminated wood.

Have they crossed the line into modern slip joints or are they still traditional?

It's inevitable.

I like the way they look. Game changers? Hell nah. Everyone and their grandpa's girlfriend's hairdresser's uncle makes a modern traditional. You think CASE will do it better than Lionsteel for less $$$ in S35Vn compared to M390? I am in for a black Canvas even though they will have no crisp half-stops like a good ole DOM.

I will say this, Case obviously cares about doing a premium line or they would not make variants in S35VN and sell them for over $125... my advice is free so take it for what it is worth... do a decent crispy half-stop, do regular nicks or do a real Scagel knock-off pull if you are gonna punch holes. Do an ACTION at least as good as a $25 CRKT VENANDI and keep the price under $80.

Now let's see what these end up selling for on the street.

I have CASE with half-stops, BTW. I have a gorgeous first run jigged bone TB BACK POCKET... it has the floppiest most vague, spongiest "half-stop" this side of the worst BEAR AND SONS. I said what I said.

I think a pocket clip for a large pocket knife is a good idea. Case has a new mid-hunter with a clip and a thumb-knob, but it's Army only.

They will sell those if they make them more inclusive.

But, no.

It's not traditional.
