One of the problems I have with throwing is getting past that period of time where you are sticking maybe 1 out of 5 throws and the tomahawk handles holding up. Once you get into that magical sticking mode the handles don't take that much abuse. One of the reasons I chose the CS Trail Hawk for throwing was the relative reasonable price, available replacement handles, plus it has a good weight too, hammer poll, and can be maneuvered really well.
I think throwing is really a perishable skill that you need to do about 2-3 times a week just to keep that 'magic balance' and being able to estimate the range. I think everyone should do some target throwing first then move onto tactical throwing i.e. "Move & throw"
and " Throw & Move". Luckly where I live I have a piece of ground that will let me practice both uphill, downhill, and on the side slope.
When you add this to your regiment you'll see some neat things occur. Three years ago I was throwing every day, even some at night, and got reasonably good at 10 & 20 feet. The 50ft targets still remain inconsistant. During this time I would hold two extra trail hawks in my left plus the throwing hand. I encountered a problem with actually hitting my own handles and rendering them unusable. Solution, multiple targets. There is some neat stuff you can do with throwing. I know people use the old saying " Why throw your weapon away." This is probably just an excuse for being lazy and not expanding your training. I don't think I would throw a fiber handle. When I get my K-5 I'll let you know about it.
Thanks guys for indulging this ole wolf's comments.
