SOG Team Leader Survivor

Neat piece, and interesting. I am going to buy one and try it. I would hate to be on the receiving end of a slashing with the spine

I really like the review, thanks for taking the time Mistwalker!
The knife looks good, but in this configuration I think it's an accident waiting to happen.
I for one, sure would not want to use that saw in the dark, with cold hands. One's hand could so easily slip over the knife edge and get a serious injury. It's my 2 cents.

Thanks man, glad you liked the review.

I have done a lot of sawing with it and today when I shot the above video it was about twenty degrees and I've had no problems at all so far. The shape of the handle, texture of the handle scales, and the depth of the first finger notch/guard make for a really secure grip.

I think it would make a great Bug out kit knife where you might find yourself having to cut through Plexiglas, a wall or who knows what like you said in an earlier post. Sort of a "one" fixed blade in a small kit.

I thought about getting one because of the sawback. It may prove valuable in some situation someday. SOG has quite a diversity of products.

I would too, it likely wouldn't go much deeper than the length of the saw teeth but would definitely cause a lot of pain and trauma ripping through so many nerve endings, and a good bit of bleeding from all of the shredding. It would definitely be an "attention-getter"

I like it, I tend to use it as my "second" fixed blade in my kit when I have a larger one on my belt or have a larger one in my pack and it on my belt. I weighs very little and has great capabilities.

As I have said a few times in this thread I am really happy to find a fixed blade knife with a saw that really works.

Yeah, they do have a diversified line up.

Mistwalker, thanks for the video. It's really good. Have you had a chance to check out the Revolver or Fusion Revolver? It's always on my pack when I go camping. Great second knife also. Even though I don't need it, I keep thinking of getting the Team Leader Survivor cause it's so usefull.

No, I haven't had the chance to check one out in person but I have thought about getting one. How old is the one you have?

mistwalker,

Thanks for the review. I have been eyeing this knife as well. Sorry if you already discussed this, but how do you like the sheath? Is it holding up? Are the sawteeth eating the leather?

Thanks!

Ive also been wondering...dosent the saw-teeth cause the knife to stick and bind when sheating and unsheathing it? And is the sheath holding up fine?

The sheath is designed to be a little loose so with "normal" use I have noticed no problems yet. It does only stand to reason that over a long period of time or with extensive use as by an instructor or such that there would be some abrasion and wear so in that case one may want to have a kydex sheath made. As it is I see very little wear done by the teeth I'll try to get some pics of the inside of the sheath up soon now that I have been using it for a while.

I got mine in August of 2003, which was a few months after they first came out. Been interested in the Teamleader and Teamleader Survivor ever since they were annouced. Thinking I should get one when I get my Tax return. Sure, I don't need it but being able to test it would be cool. And I can always gift it if I don't want to keep it afterwards. ;)

Would love to see pictures of the sheath and how it's wearing.

I wanted one of the original Revolvers, now I am waiting to hear something about them since it became part of their "Fusion" line. I am wondering if it has a metal internal frame or if the handle is entirely synthetic. I think maybe I am a little hard on knives for a purely synthetic handle with moving parts to work for me.

I'll get some pics of the sheath up tomorrow or the next day, I don't have the knife with me at the moment. I loaned it to my brother to check out yesterday.

Thanks for the sheath info, MW. Quick question - what do you think of the quality of the sheath overall?

It's really not a bad sheath. As always I do wish they'd use more rivets but...the sheath for my old bowie has no rivets at all and shows no sign of coming apart after a decade .....

The knife still has the stainless steel liners. It's the same handle design with better texturing. :) I've handled one at a local knife shop, just have not gotten around to buying one yet. BTW suposedly we will be getting a review of the Fusion Revolver on the SOG Forum soon.

Any chance for my pictures/videos of you using your Team Leader Surivor? I love pictures of knives in use. ;)

Well, that puts it in a different light for me. Cool, I'll be looking forward to the review.

Is SOG's Fusion line their budget collection? Like Spyderco's Byrd?

Going by the prices that's what I'm thinking.
