SOG virgin

good choice. SOG makes innovative and unique knives. May not be the best materials but hey I don't see Spyderco or Kershaw making knives like SOGs.

Spyderco makes a knife just like SOG:

Ya beat me to it :)

I'm not hating on sog for model copying (even though that is a big beef of mine with them). I'm mostly not a fan because they generally use low end blade steels and aren't as quality as you would expect for the price.

i have the sog-mini vulcan, and i csn honsestly say it is one of my higher quality knives. perfect fit and finish, and smoothest opening folder i have used to date

My girlfriend has the SOG Flash II. She wanted a tiny assisted opener with a safety - and I picked it out for her. She's quite happy with it. I'm not even curious about what else they make nowadays.

And please no SOG hating

You ask our opinion, but then you don't want it?
Good thread.

I'm gonna give you my opinion (again) anyway :D If you like to over pay, and you like blade play then go for it! HAPPY BIRTHDAY BROSKI

Why don't you prove your post some? What's 3 things that Sog has done innovative.

And you're right, I see Spyderco and Kershaw making much better knives with much better designs, materials, and customer service to back it up than Sog.

I just don't want trolling that's all say your opinion but don't go overboard

Don't make me regret posting this thread I really do love knives and I am anything but a steel snob

The story is that I have a tiny little knife collection I am putting together of one knife from all the major companies I feel are the coolest

A pre 2010 cs ak47 with the auto lock not the triad

A kershaw ET urban camo

A gerber metolius

A crkt large natural

And after this sog I do plan on getting a spyderco actually a endure 4 wave to be more specific. Which I have a strong feeling I will love

Then after that it's a benchmade with a axis lock, not sure of the model and then maybe probably not because of the price but maybe a Emerson cqc-16

Isn't vg10 a great steel

Yes.

He asked for an opinion not a generic Sog criticism. Which models have you owned, which have you even used? how bad way the bladeplay? did Sog correct it?

Love my Sog mini vulcan tanto! Not crazy about the zytel handles. But its sharp as hell and smooth as can be! Have many SOG s, dont like kershaw! Def get into the Spydies and benchmades! Try a Benchmade 15030 Bone Collector Mini Axis! One of my new favs! 70 bucks for that SOG, good deal!

i think that is a good way to collect, you get a little "taste" of what every company is doing. hopefully your knife has zero issues and you enjoy it.

with over 800 posts on this forum, you probably should have known what to expect when asking about SOG.

I suspect he wanted an experienced opinion based on actual ownership, rather than hollow opinions based on bias and conjecture. But I could be wrong.

I posted that id rather get the kershaw because i have owned a SOG. I think overall quality is poor. But, if he wanted to have a knife from every company he should research which he would like best i guess.

I think the Twitch series from SOG is interesting. Lockback with a flipper isn't very common in the knife world--maybe for good reason...I dunno. The Twitch knives seem pretty nice to me though.

the 3 sogs i've owned far surpass the kershaws . the kershaws came nowhere near the quality of most cold steels. of the 200 plus knives i own i did;nt keep a kershaw but have many other brands. when it comes to the wire the knife one has is the one they like. one ca'nt criticise personal preferance.--dennis

I got the kershaw et for obvious reasons plus it's a nice blade design

My favorite one that I carry most is the cs ak47 that gave me the bug for the axis/auto/arc lock style and for blades with a wave feature I'd go as far as to say it's my favorite pocket knife

Of course I have owned several folding Sog knives. How would I know about all the blade play if I had not?
I don't just repeat things that I have read on the internet, thank you for insinuating that I do.
I have owned more SOG fixed blades that I have been happy with. I used to buy SOG knives when I was younger because I thought that they looked cool and the price was right mostly. I have since realized what blade pay is, I think I owned 4 of their knives at one point and they all had terrible blade play that could not be repaired by me. If a company puts out that many knives with issues, that company is not for me, I don't care if they fix them for free or replace them. The knife should be good from the factory.

The OP asked for opinions and I told him my experiences. If you don't like facts then don't read my posts :D

Sounds like you are more interested in "interesting" knives than quality at this point. Good luck in with your collection.

SOG is alright IMO, but for the money I'd go with a different brand/knife. The materials are mediocre and I have actually experienced some issues with my mini pentagon, most likely due to an improper heat treatment. But, if you really want the sog vulcan, get the sog vulcan. There are better sog knives out there if you are only look for a sog to add to your collection.

ive had the sog mini vulcan and i really like their VG-10, however the pocket clip broke after a few months, and i never really enjoyed the zytel handles, but all i had to do was carve up some g10 and get a new deep carry pocket clip and i was set in all honesty id give it a 6 out of 10 best of luck
