SOG virgin

My standard EDC is the cold steel ak47 which I have seen other people carry and love (not just me) it's a good user and not just "interesting" the guy who showed it to me works on a farm and his was used a lot. other then that my back up is a Vietnam era imperial US pocket knife or a old buck 110 that was my dads before me

If I am ever doing a lot of heavy cutting it's a kobalt folding utility knife

My favorite fixed blades that I have are a Becker bk2, a blind horse knives bushcrafter and a WWII PAL rh36

Why don't you prove your post some? What's 3 things that Sog has done innovative.

You sound like a very smart person. If you are open minded enough you can find those for yourself. If you are closed minded enough you will report back here saying there are absolutely no innovations whatsoever.

And you're right, I see Spyderco and Kershaw making much better knives with much better designs, materials, and customer service to back it up than Sog.

You know that is not what I meant or what I implied.

Please keep the arguing to a minimum

This is just one knife. I will be buying more, if my SOG does turn out to suck I will just stop buying there knives it's that simple

Its not worth fighting over. If a lit of you don't like SOG because you had a bad experience without them I respect that but if that's the case let me have that experience for myself so I can learn

It's my birthday next wendsday and my ma wanted to buy me a gift so I decided to finally add a sog to my line up ( I have one knife from every company)

I was between a kerhsaw jyd composite but I managed to find a sog mini Vulcan tanto for $70 which is awesome

Anyway I just wanted to see what you guys think since I respect your opinions

OK, so your a troll. That explains a lot. You can't start a thread asking for our opinion on a brand of knives and then tell us that our opinions aren't important because you want to learn about the knives yourself by buying them.
We're just trying to save you the trouble and disappointment of buying a crummy knife.

I hate for my first post to be negative, but SOG, IMO, when compared to Kersahw, Syderco, Benchmade......is kinda like owning a Honda Civic over a BMW M5. But in the latter case, you at least get what you pay for.

Not bad for a first post negative or not  Welcome to the forums!

Personally most SOGs don't lock up well (ARC locks primarily), blade steel is fairly poor, as in Heat treated soft for some reason, and they're really bottomed out with their design robberies recently. BUT handles are usually pretty decent, particularly on the Triton, and IMO many are pretty good looking, shame they're over priced.

Good luck with your SOG, everyone should develop a hands on opinion if they can, who knows you might like them.

I ordered the knife before I posted this thread

I just want a few simple opinions about the knife and not the company and not people arguing about what brand is better than the other

But if I upset you I apologize I didn't want a simple birthday gift to piss of so many people

And you know what I was real close to getting the jyd and if I did none of this would have happen

I'm not pissed off. But it would be cool if you'd make up your mind about what you think of our opinions. Or did this thread cause you to lose respect for this community?

@ SilentJohn

I currently own 5 SOG knives. (1) Tech Bowie, (1) Blink, (1) Twitch XL and (2) Spec Elite II

I am satisfied with all of them, they all fill their purpose in my quiver. My EDC blade is the Spec Elite, carried for a few years now and hasn't let me down, I like the ergos and find the VG10 takes a very fine edge. Lock up is not exactly like a bank vault but good enough for me and my OCD. I have not found another blade in that size that I really like. Blink and Twitch XL's are my "gentleman's" knife. Carry them when I'm dressed up "formal". And the tech bowie is for scaring the mall ninjas =)

I do have several knives from many different makers but you asked about SOG.

Thanks

And acid no it didn't I just didn't want people to start arguing , I bought a knife and just wanted some opinions and thoughts from other people , I also hoped to someone who owns a mini Vulcan would chime in

I know SOG is a touchy subject and didnt want a repeat of other threads

I'm not saying that all SOG knives are bad. Just the folders :D
For instance, tomorrow I'm going snow shoeing and the fixed blade knife I will bring is my SOG seal pup. It's not a fancy knife, it's not an expensive knife, and I didn't buy it because the price was right or because I thought it was particularly tough or suited for camping. I bought it because I think it's cool. If it was made by kershaw or (almost) any other company I'd still have bought it.

For a fixed blade I like my bhk bushcrafter because it's a great blade made by great guys and it's american made which is a big plus

Plus it came with a really nice sheath I still can't believe the price

I'm surprised more Sog haters haven't jumped on the bandwagon. I can only give you my personal observation. The quality of my Spydercos and Kershaws has not blow away that of my Sogs, despite what anyone on this forum wants to to believe. Furthermore Sog assisted opening has proven to me to be pretty reliable.

Just my 0.02

Totally agreed!!

I've had a few sog's over the years including folders and fixed blades the biggest dissapointments of the bunch were the folders I had an ageis and a trident both worked fine for the first couple then developed a ton of blade play both side to side and vertical also the blade on the trident rusted like crazy and edge retention left something to be desired however I do have an older seki city seal pup that has held up quite well.
