SOG with Talon hole

I'm curious myself...
My suspicion is that since it looks more like it's part of the blade rather than a guard, it may be "different enough". The key question is, would you confuse it with a Busse? My answer would be no. I seem to remember another line some time ago that looked much more like a Busse.
Either way, I'm sure Jerry will take the appropriate action.
 
I'm not sure how specific the busse trademark is, but most of the blatent infrigmenets I've seen that have noticable commentary on them are those wich use a perfect circule, surrounded by a perfect circular gaurd wich leads to a circular choil. The extrema ratio shrapnel is an example of a perfect circle with a circular gaurd, that doesn't transition into a circular choil. It's similar, but I wouldn't personally recognize it as a busse style set up upon first glance.... But again, I dont know the specifics of the trademark.

You have to stand up for your IP (intellectual property) or you rapidly lose it. A patent, copyright, etc. is worth nothing if it is not vigorously defended.

I just did a search on "KIKU" and it seems there's a chance of a production version coming out. (someday)

That will probably be my only chance of owning a kiku and so I was wondering what "all is well" means:

All is well, SOG won't drill a hole in the front guard.
or
All is well, I gave them permission to drill the front guard.
or
All is well, that wasn't an infringement of our trademark.
or?......

I'm kinda hoping it WILL have the hole.

Did you see the one on page 54 in the new Blade?
Hole is in the guard.

One on page 108 with hole also but it is not in the guard... which is OK, right?

Yes, but is that like a prototype or will the entire limited run have the hole?
Will it still be on the production version?
Was this NOT an infringement or was permission given?
What did Jerry and SOG agree to?
 
Once you start looking, there's plenty of knives with what could be considered a Talon Hole.

Extrema Ratio : several models (kukri for example)
Fox Trakker
Koster WSK

So are these OK, or are they also infringing? (don't know if that's a correct word)

Bashing other knife companies here isnt acceptable, bad form. :grumpy:

Stropper, take a deep breath, if anyone knows anything I'm sure they will post it as soon as they find out. Actually, most of us dont really care one way or the other as long as Jerry continues to make knives. :)

Jerry said all is well with SOG, that is all that we need to know and most likely it is all you will ever know. Jerry is not one to discuss his business matters on a public forum.
