SOLD, 30 Field Knives etc. Tweaked Delta 3V, Magnacut. Also a few EDCs.

We're having an open pre-order for a Kukri on our sub tonight at 5:00, here: https://www.bladeforums.com/threads/open-pre-order-kukri.2041169/

This new tweaked Delta 3V is not an improvement. It's not even very much different than regular Delta 3V. But it is a little better at higher hardness and it is a good fit for certain knives and certain people who want that little bit more of a crisp edge.

"wow, big deal Nate, you cooked it hotter and tempered it lower. What a breakthrough. *shrug* "

If it were that simple, I'd have found this years ago during D3V development.

Back then I was buying the same 3V as everyone. Over time I started buying entire heats of it, to minimize variations. That also gave me the ability to change the heat condition and grain bias and % cross roll among other things. I can now buy entire melts which opens even more possibilities for little tweaks. While it is basically the same steel design, this tweak resulted in a much finer carbide distribution.

This reduces the edge stability issues at higher hardness and moves the sweet spot up a little bit so we're running it harder.

There is no free lunch. While this results in improved durability in certain use, it costs a little toughness in other use. So I won't be doing this with large blades. But it's a good fit here.

In practice, there honestly isn't much difference. But there is some.

I tweaked the symbol too. I moved it forward, so it stands out and we don't accidently mix them up here, and I changed the marking itself some too. Just to help keep up with things.

We aren't going to stop using our regular Delta 3V. This is a McRib kind of situation.

Today we have your choice of a Signature or a 5" Basic Field Knife in tweaked Delta 3V. The basic does not have a swedge or jimping or weight reduction skeletonization on the tang.

This new run of our classic Field Knife pattern is a fantastic and well thought out tool knife with a best-in-class balance of cutting ability, durability and edge retention. The blade and grip are well thought out and will perform in the many grips used by a tradesman, and bush crafter. This is an excellent value for a high quality cutting tool that will perform reliably for a lifetime with well above average durability and edge retention.

Thank you for the heads up and the link. When a sale like this is going on, is this how it works? Just reply to the forum post with the request and then the maker will contact me and ask for payment? I'm new to blade forums and I don't understand how it works.
