sold a knife on ebay, something seems off

Again, one simple call to the eBay "Trust And Safety" department will confirm just what I said about the sellers responsibility ending one the item is received buy the 'original' buyer at the 'original registered' address.

(New quote since you edited.)

I don't doubt in the least that they would say that. That's how it should be!!! But there's plenty of evidence, that can be easily found, which shows that's not necessarily what they would do. Therein is where the problem lies.

Sounds good dude, good luck with that. ;)

Just trying to look out for you, take it or leave it. You're just one person, and sounds like you've been pretty lucky. Plenty of other folks have been burned. I've been on there for 19 years myself, and I rarely sell there anymore for the reasons outlined above. And it's only getting worse; WAY too many folks looking to scam on there these days. It only takes getting burned once. :)

I think when you say "look out for you" you mean look out for the original person that started the thread, not me.
To the persons or person that keeps referring to sellers being scammed by buyers... that's not what this tread is about, the thread is about whether a seller can be held liable for an item that arrives to a "secondary U.S. address" or a "secondary foreign address" and I'm telling anyone that the responsibility/liability ends once the item is delivered to the original person/address/country.

As to a sellers responsibility if the original registered buyer claims the box was broken/the Postal service destroyed the item/broke the item... that's what insurance is for, too many sellers never insure the item.
Selling on eBay is not for people that don't get it takes work to protect yourself, many just want to make a quick buck.
Take photos (as I previously stated) of your packing method and again after the box is sealed with the buyers address clearly showing.

Regardless, I would contact Ebay, describe that you are part of an online forum, and that this felt very similar to an earlier scam that was run, and that you felt as though it would be unwise to part with your product. If they come back with "ship it or take the defect" then you can decide how you want to proceed with shipping, and cover your backside that way.

I'm just throwing this out there without any answer but,
Ebay is just one policy that has to be considered
Pay Pal policy will also be involved
and maybe even a credit card company

When Ebay's policy is 'fuck you, seller' and paypal's is virtually the same, any cause for pause should be considered fully.
Chambelona's experience on ebay has clearly never included a 'misrepresented item' claim. If it had, he'd know that the SELLER is on the hook till the buyer says 'good deal'. All it would take is a 'he sold me a fake' by the fella doing the forwarding. Bammo: he returns (with tracking) a fake knife, gets his money back, and gets to send the real one on to chiganistan. Maybe selling it again. That is the worry here.

Now, personally I have never seen a fake Busse, but I dont look for them on ebay or amazon, either.
