I have always just periodically coated with mineral oil, and don't know much about the silicone rags, but here is thread from a while back where they discuss them as an option for blade care, as well as Tuf Cloth. The common opinion seemed to lean towards the Tuf Cloth and some said silicone attracts grit and leaves a slimy film.

Oh and when maintaining your blade, watch that point, it bites quick and deep if you're not careful! Mine has finally healed up.
