If you're trying to delete some old messages then:

Go to your mail up top
Click on "show all"
Look at the boxes on the right of the messages
For the messages that you wanna delete, click the box on the right.
Look at the bottom where it says "choose action" and click on that
At the top it says "leave messages"
Click on that
Then it'll ask of you'll want to receive future messages or not. (See pic)
And then hit "go"
This will help you clean up your messages.
