With F&F, all the safeties associated w/ PayPal are out the window (because the customs assumes the liability, not PayPal, of this being a legitimate transaction).
I usually add 3% to the cost when people want F&F (unless we’ve had transactions before). 3% is a small price to pay to not get hosed!

Great. I got ripped off as well. Oh well. I guessed that it would be okay to send F&F because it was a long-time member with positive feedback. I wish BF never changed the rule about G&S only. Now it seems to be more common place here for sellers to quote F&F.

He almost got me. I am a sucker for a good deal. I offered to pay G&S fee and he said absolutely no. I thought the photos looked familiar and searched "Frag Ti Smock" and found the exact same pictures in a post in October, where it was sold for 265. And he told me he bought it from the buyer in that post. :( Then he PMed me 5 times in the next few minutes demanding for payment.
So, if you have any suspicion, delay sending payment and see how the seller reacts. Honest sellers will give you plenty of time to send in payment. Just a thought. Also noticed that he locked the threads before payment so no one could post questions or comments.

Yeah those were definitely signs something was fishy that I should have heeded. Well, live and learn. Again, I think BF should never have lifted the rule of G&S only. It opens the probability for these kinds of things to happen.

Yeah....I almost been had too...."he" never let me know his pp..... the whole deal was sketchy....thread was locked as soon as he posted...."reply by pm only"......"pp ff" in bold

I agree but again, things have changed since BF started allowing FF. It’s not unusual to see perfectly legitimate sellers requesting FF nowadays. I also see sellers asking to respond via PM, even by text message. Even this seller, if you go back to his listings in September, which I can only assume was before the hack, he was saying he was trying to get away from G&S because he got a 1099 from PayPal.

I should have seen the warning signs but again, these kinds of things are going to be more commonplace if you change the rules to accommodate it.

Just look at the most recent posting on this forum for spyderco bombshell. Same exact thing, PayPal Ff pm me for details post. Seller has rating over 200

My account was hacked this morning but I’m in control of it again.
I don’t own this knife or have one for sale.
I’m very sorry for any inconvenience.
This is really embarrassing.

If I can offer another tip for avoiding a scam, look at the seller’s previous sales posts if you’re suspicious. Mine are always lengthy with lots of details and usually have links to videos of the items for sale on YouTube. It would have been a red flag to see one like this that was so short and lacking details. But I know the Exchange rating is what most people look at. I do the same thing. I’ll be more cautious in the future. I’ve also substantially increased my security posture here and all over the web today.
