Some advice on my next EDC folder

Looking for some advice/suggestions.

I've been EDC'ing a Kershaw Clash for the past 5 years and an S&W Extreme Ops before that. I've been very impressed with the Clash's value for money but now I'm looking for something new to feed my addiction.

I don't abuse my knives(nothing hardcore or bush related) and I prefer an understated and clean design, preferably wood handles(the G10 on my Clash is one of my gripes)

I love the design of the boker plus exskelibur but the price including shipping to the bottom of the world can be rather restrictive.

Ideas?

Please and thank you

The first thing we'd need to know is what is your price range, and then blade length and style, among others. Most wood handled knives are going to be traditionals. Mcusta has some wood-handled knives, and Benchmade has the North Fork with dymondwood handles, which are a synthetic wood using micarta or some such.

Price: As I said the shipping to S.A and terrible exchange rate makes it more restrictive so maximum $110 including the shipping.

Length: I have bear paws but the Clash(3 inch blade and 7 1/4 inch total) is a comfortable fit. I don't want to go any smaller.

Style. This is tricky. I like the speed assist but I'd prefer something different for my new knife. Simple is best i.e flipper or non assisted but I'm open to suggestions here.

I think a Spyderco Stretch or Endura would be a great knife for you. Native 5 and Manix 2 lightweight are nice too. The Kershaw Blur (especially the elmax version) fit in your price range, and it is assisted.

Sorry forgot to say that I'd prefer to stay away from Spyderco and Kershaw.

Hate the look of Spyderco and already have the Kershaw so looking for something new. Apologies for the omission.

Check out anything by Buck. I have a folding hunter, which probably isn't what you're looking for, and a 122 Spitfire. You might actually like the Spitfire, one hand opener. Does have a hole in the blade but more aesthetic than SpyderCo. It'sl light, sharp and holds an edge very well. Street cost Stateside is around 30 dollars American, so with shipping it should be in your budget. Go to www.buckknives.com to check it out. They have others that you could be interisted in.

It's hard to find modern folders with wood scales. I can't think of any off the top of my head that are assisted open.

You might check out A.G. Russell, they carry a couple of modernish designs with wood scales like the small Dozier Trapper Flipper with cocobolo and the One Hand Knife in cocobolo and the War Eagle with sandalwood.

Maserin makes the Arno folder with wood scales.

Several Bucks come in a handle material that they call Dymondwood, which looks woodish but is really like a micarta. The Vantage series might fit some of your requirements.

There's a flavor of the Enlan EL-01 with rosewood scales...

You can pick up wood aftermarket scales for an Ontario RAT Model 1 for around $20...

That puts a damper on things. Benchmades are way overpriced, though HK has some reasonable folders. Check out the HK 14715 Axis folder. 3.69" D2 blade. Very nice knife at $102. Kizer has some nice value priced folders as well.

Modern folders are difficult to find in wood.
+1 for the Benchmade Dymonwood North Fork. They're one of the closer things you'll find.
Some spyderco sages come in wood, i believe there are some wood aftermarket scales floating around for the paramilitary 2

The bushcraft store has some interesting "woodlore" folders with various kinds of wood and locking mechanisms.
EnZo makes a folder.
$110 is a bit restrictive but you might end up pushing that up to $150

tHanks for the suggestions. It seems I might have to give up on the wood handles in my price range and style

If Chinese knives are okay with you, Enlan has a handful of models with wood handles. Definitely will fall well within your price range, and they are all non-traditionals.

A buck ranger has a 3in blade, and 4 1/4 in handle with wood/brass handles. You can do a custom made buck with s30v steel for around your budget.

For a modern folder with wood scales, try an EnZo Birk with Birch scales. This is one of my smoothest knives. The machining is top notch. It is a little out of your price range though.

Lovely knife but just too expensive. My 110 budget has to include the shipping to S.A which is usually around $35 sadly

Have you considered a traditional? You might like a Stockman, Trapper (or Moose) or Canoe, or Barlow. Having more than one blade shape/profile is a big advantage.
For a single blade, the venerable Buck 110 or 112. I've never heard of a Buck backlock failing.

Since you do not like Spyderco how about a Cold Steel Mini Recon 1? If you get the AUS8 model they can be found from $45 to $85 or so right now and there is no stronger knife (nor sharper!).

+1 to the Enzo. They are brilliant. Honestly my "find of the year" was my Enzo.

I am really pleased with my Sanrenmu knife with wood scales. You can pick them up for about $15-$25 including shipping. I have the PR-603 with wood handle and I love it as a small gentleman's EDC. If you want one a little larger, try the Sanrenmu Land.
