Looks Like cedar to me. Where there any branches around the tree? If so can you tell if it was a conifer or deciduous based on foliage that was left attached to the branches?
if you cut the piece with a saw you should smell something if its cedar. if there is no smell then its not cedar. it could also be a type of locust that grows here in ohio. a friend had some and i'll see if he still does.
I have definitely seen some pretty purply cedar over the years...not sure what causes that though. I don't know what you have for trees in Ohio so for me it's very hard to guess.
